SKF single-row deep-groove ball bearing 6316 -2Z/C3 with an 80 mm bore, non-contacting sheet metal shields and increased C3 radial clearance for industrial rotary applications.
The SKF 6316 -2Z/C3 single-row deep groove ball bearing is designed primarily to accommodate radial loads as well as moderate axial loads in both directions. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 rolling-element bearing steel, this unit has dimensions of 80 x 170 x 39 mm. The two metal cover plates protect the interior from coarse particles without generating additional friction. This makes the component suitable for speeds within a temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees. You will receive a ready-to-use bearing with standard tolerance P0.
This deep-groove ball bearing is used in industrial drive and shaft mountings where combined radial and axial loads, as well as a non-contact seal, are required. Thanks to the C3 clearance, the bearing compensates for thermal expansion that occurs between the shaft and housing during continuous operation. The sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements in an orderly manner along the raceway. The design, which has no flange or ring groove on the outer ring, allows for straightforward installation in cylindrical housing bores.
The designation 2Z stands for sheet steel cover plates fitted on both sides. These gap seals keep out coarse dirt but, unlike abiding sealing lips, do not cause any additional frictional torque. The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This variant is intended for applications where tight fits on the 80 mm shaft or a temperature gradient between the inner and outer rings reduce the operating clearance whilst the bearing is in operation. The component is designed for operation in the temperature range from -20 to +120 degrees.
With a bore diameter of 80 mm, an external diameter of 170 mm and a width of 39 mm, this version has standardised main dimensions. These allow for a precise fit when mounted on suitable shafts and in cylindrical housings. The outer ring has a smooth surface without a flange or groove.
The 2Z design features end plates made of sheet steel on both sides, which act as a non-contact gap seal to repel particles. The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance when new. This ensures that sufficient clearance between the rolling elements and raceways is maintained, even when the bearing heats up or in the case of tight fits.
The specified operating range for this bearing is between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius. Both the standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel and the sheet steel cage and metal end plates are designed for this range. Within this range, the components retain their dimensional stability and mechanical properties.
A sheet steel cage is characterised by its low weight and high mechanical strength. It guides the rolling elements evenly along the raceway and prevents the balls from coming into direct contact with one another. Furthermore, it is resistant to common lubricants and is suitable for the entire temperature range from -20 to +120 degrees.
This version is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0 or PN, which corresponds to the ABEC 1 rating. This class meets standard industrial requirements for dimensional, geometric and running accuracy. It allows for correct fitting onto shafts and direct replacement in existing assemblies.
As a deep-groove ball bearing, the design accommodates moderate axial forces in both directions in addition to predominantly radial forces. The deep raceways in the inner and outer rings provide effective support for the rolling elements under axial thrust loads. For pure or very high axial loads, however, designers should consider special axial or angular contact ball bearings.
