With dimensions of 40 × 52 × 7 mm, the SKF 61808 deep-groove ball bearing saves valuable installation space when subjected to radial loads.
The 61808 deep groove ball bearing is a narrow-profile, thin-section bearing. SKF manufactures this single-row model from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, which is also used for the rolling elements. Thanks to its small cross-section – with a 40 mm bore and a 52 mm outer diameter – designers can achieve particularly space-saving shaft mountings. The open design, without sealing washers, allows for direct lubrication via the machine’s surrounding oil or grease circuit.
This thin-section bearing is primarily used where radial installation space is severely limited and low mass is required. Typical applications can be found in general mechanical engineering, in precision mechanical equipment and in gearbox housings. The bearing primarily absorbs radial forces, but also guides the shaft reliably in both directions under moderate axial forces. Thanks to the sturdy sheet steel cage, the bearing runs smoothly and with low vibration even at higher speeds.
As this model has no integrated seals, the installation point in the housing must be protected against dirt and moisture. The 61808 deep-groove ball bearing has the standard radial clearance and tolerance class P0/PN (equivalent to ABEC 1). When fitting, ensure that the mating dimensions on the shaft and housing are clean. The permissible temperature range is from -20 to +120 degrees Celsius and covers standard industrial operating conditions.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 40 mm, an outer diameter of 52 mm and a narrow width of 7 mm. Owing to this small cross-section, it belongs to the group of thin-section bearings, which are suitable for confined installation spaces.
Open bearings have neither cover plates nor sealing rings at their ends. The rolling elements and raceways are exposed, allowing the lubricant from the surrounding assembly to circulate freely. The surrounding housing must provide the seal against contamination.
This model features standard radial bearing clearance (CN). This standard value ensures smooth, play-free operation with standard fit selections and at normal operating temperatures, without causing stress on the rolling elements during operation.
Both the raceways and the rolling elements are made from standard 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel. The balls are guided by a robust sheet-steel cage, which offers high dimensional stability at temperatures between –20 and +120 degrees Celsius.
Tolerance class P0, often referred to as standard tolerance or ABEC 1, defines the permissible dimensional and runout tolerances in accordance with current standards. It ensures reliable dimensional accuracy for standard applications in mechanical engineering.
