The SKF 635 deep groove ball bearing features compact dimensions of 5 × 19 × 6 mm for smooth-running shafts in precision engineering applications.
The 635 deep-groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing in an open design, made from standard 100Cr6 rolling-element bearing steel. Manufactured to the SKF Explorer performance class, this miniature bearing meets requirements for dimensional accuracy and smooth running. The design does not require integrated sealing washers, resulting in low friction losses. A dimensionally stable sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly in the deep raceways and allows operation within a temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees Celsius.
Typical applications for the 635 deep-groove ball bearing include compact devices, small electric motors and precision engineering assemblies. The bearing primarily absorbs radial forces and guides the shaft in both directions, even under axial loads. As it does not feature contact seals, the shaft runs smoothly. The component is suitable for designs where external housing sealing is already in place or where oil circulation lubrication is used.
In this variant without sealing washers, lubricants such as oil or grease can reach the raceways and rolling elements unhindered. This facilitates relubrication whilst the system is running and ensures low friction torques. During design, care must be taken to ensure that the installation point remains protected against the ingress of dirt or moisture. With the standard radial bearing clearance and tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1), the roller bearing fits into standard fits without the need for extensive reworking of the shaft or housing.
This miniature deep-groove ball bearing has an inner diameter of 5 mm, an outer diameter of 19 mm and a width of 6 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical and has neither a flange nor a ring groove. Before installation, the shaft seat and housing bore must be adapted to these dimensions.
The standard radial bearing clearance refers to the factory-set radial clearance between the balls and raceways when the bearing is unloaded. It is designed for standard fits and operating temperatures between –20 and +120 degrees Celsius. This ensures that the bearing runs reliably and smoothly, without normal thermal expansion causing excessive binding.
Open roller bearings have neither cover plates nor sealing discs on their end faces. This design minimises rotational resistance, as there is no sealing lip rubbing against the inner ring. Furthermore, the open structure allows for the flexible application of lubricants or connection to a central oil supply within enclosed housings.
The rings and rolling elements are made from standard 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel. This material offers high wear resistance and dimensional stability under load. The integrated sheet steel cage maintains a constant distance between the balls and withstands the mechanical stresses encountered during normal operation.
The bearing is designed for an operating temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. Within these limits, the sheet steel cage and the roller bearing steel structure retain their mechanical properties. The lubricant used should always be suited to the respective operating temperature of the entire system.
Classification according to tolerance class P0 (also referred to as standard tolerance PN or ABEC 1) defines the dimensional and running accuracy of rolling bearing rings. It meets the requirements of general mechanical engineering and drive technology, and facilitates the precise replacement of standardised components.
