The FAG 6338-M deep-groove ball bearing is a large, open bearing with a brass cage, with main dimensions of 190 x 400 x 78 mm.
The 6338-M deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing designed for heavy-duty machinery. With an inside diameter of 190 mm, an outside diameter of 400 mm and a width of 78 mm, this design can accommodate high radial loads and axial guidance forces in both directions. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, the rings and rolling elements offer high dimensional stability. As the component is of open design, it can be flexibly integrated into a planned housing lubrication system.
Large-dimensioned rolling bearings of this size are primarily used in industrial mechanical engineering and in heavy-duty drive trains. Typical applications include heavy-duty gearboxes and industrial drives subject to high combined loads. Thanks to the solid brass cage, the bearing operates reliably even under vibration or with varying load directions. The 6338 -M deep groove ball bearing is designed for standardised bearing seats with a cylindrical seat.
The suffix ‘-M’ denotes the solid brass cage, which guides the rolling elements precisely. This cage design is engineered to withstand demanding mechanical stresses and dynamic load peaks. As the bearing is manufactured without integrated seals, the lubricant can be selected to suit the specific application. At ambient temperatures ranging from –20 to +150 degrees, the component retains its dimensional stability within the standard tolerance class P0.
This large roller bearing has a bore of 190 mm, an outer diameter of 400 mm and a width of 78 mm. These key dimensions determine the design of the shaft and the housing bore. Before assembly, the fit dimensions of the connecting components must be checked against these nominal dimensions.
The suffix -M indicates a solid brass cage. This material is characterised by high strength and reliably guides the balls along the raceways, even under dynamic loads. It is designed for demanding operating conditions involving mechanical vibrations or impact forces.
As this design does not incorporate sealing washers, lubrication is carried out externally via the bearing housing using grease or lubricating oil. The open design allows for use in oil-bath or recirculating lubrication systems. Suitable seals must be fitted to the surrounding housing to protect the bearing from contamination.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -20 to +150 degrees. Standard rolling-element bearing steel 100Cr6 retains its dimensional stability within this range. When designing the bearing arrangement, care must be taken to ensure that the selected lubricant and any external housing seals are also suitable for the operating temperatures involved.
The component is manufactured with a standard radial bearing clearance and complies with the standard tolerances of tolerance class P0 (as well as PN and ABEC 1). This design ensures precise shaft guidance and smooth running with standard fits.
Single-row deep-groove ball bearings are primarily designed to accommodate radial forces as well as axial forces in both directions. The deep grooves in the inner and outer rings make the bearing suitable for combined loads. Depending on how it is mounted, the bearing can function as a fixed or a floating bearing.
