The SKF 6312 NR deep-groove ball bearing (60x130x31 mm) offers a space-saving axial locking mechanism within the housing, thanks to its integrated ring groove and retaining ring.
The single-row deep groove ball bearing 6312 NR combines radial load-carrying capacity with a functional housing lock. As an open rolling bearing made from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel, it is suitable for designs where lubricants can circulate freely or where external seals are in place. With a 60 mm bore, 130 mm outer diameter and 31 mm width, this SKF design meets demanding requirements. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements within a temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees Celsius.
Design engineers primarily use this rolling bearing when the axial installation space within the housing is limited and complex housing shoulders are to be avoided. The pre-fitted snap ring in the outer ring serves to secure the bearing axially directly against the housing wall. Typical areas of application are found in general mechanical engineering, in designs with limited axial installation space. The bearing primarily absorbs radial loads, but is equally suitable for accommodating axial forces acting from both sides.
The designation NR stands for the combination of a ring groove in the outer ring and a matching snap ring. This ring simplifies the housing design, as housing bores can be drilled through cylindrically without the need for a milled shoulder. During assembly, the retaining ring engages with the housing edge and aids axial positioning within the bearing seat. The bearings are manufactured with standard radial clearance and to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1.
The abbreviation NR denotes a ring groove in the outer ring (N) in conjunction with a fitted retaining ring (R). This design is intended to provide simple axial positioning of the bearing directly within a housing bore, thereby eliminating the need for additional housing shoulders or separate retaining elements.
With an internal diameter of 60 mm, an external diameter of 130 mm and a width of 31 mm, the bearing requires a clearly defined installation space. These dimensions determine the design of the shaft journal and the housing bore during the design process.
Without sealing washers on both sides, the open design allows external lubricants such as oil or grease to circulate freely inside the housing. This is intended for enclosed assemblies in which external seals protect the bearing from contamination and a continuous supply of lubricant is available.
The permissible operating range is between -20 and +150 degrees Celsius. The 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel and the sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability and mechanical load-bearing capacity during operation within this temperature range.
The component is manufactured with standard radial bearing clearance for normal operating conditions. In terms of manufacturing accuracy, the rolling bearing complies with tolerance class P0 or PN, also known as ABEC 1, which provides standardised fit accuracy at typical speeds.
Both the bearing rings and the rolling elements are made from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, which is designed to be wear-resistant. The integrated cage is made from sheet steel and serves to provide mechanical guidance for the rolling elements when used with standard industrial lubricants.
