The SKF 6309-RS1 deep groove ball bearing combines precise main dimensions of 45 × 100 × 25 mm with single-sided protection provided by a sliding RS1 sealing lip.
The SKF 6309 -RS1 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing made from 100Cr6 bearing steel. It primarily accommodates radial forces, but also handles axial loads in both directions thanks to its deep raceways. A sheet steel cage maintains an even spacing between the rolling elements and ensures smooth running. Thanks to tolerance class P0/PN (corresponding to ABEC 1) and standard radial clearance, the component fits precisely into standardised industrial applications.
This rolling bearing accommodates combined forces on shafts with a diameter of 45 mm. Suitable applications can be found in mechanical engineering for shaft mountings with a predominantly radial load. The bearing is designed for operating temperatures ranging from –20 to +120 degrees Celsius. Thanks to its single-sided seal, it is particularly suitable for installations where one side is structurally protected within the housing.
The -RS1 version features a sliding seal on one side of the bearing, whilst the opposite side remains open. This design specifically shields the bearing’s interior from external contaminants whilst simultaneously allowing lubricant to enter from the open side. During assembly, the sealed side faces the potential source of contamination. As the cylindrical outer ring is manufactured without a groove or flange, the component can be press-fitted directly into flat housing bores.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 45 mm for the shaft, an outer diameter of 100 mm for the bearing seat and a total width of 25 mm. These metric dimensions correspond to the standardised 6309 series.
RS1 refers to a single-sided, sliding seal. The sealing lip contacts the inner ring and shields the rolling elements against the ingress of dirt and moisture, whilst the opposite side remains open to allow lubricant access.
Normal bearing clearance (also referred to as CN) describes the radial clearance between the balls and the raceways in the unassembled, as-manufactured state. It ensures that, following press-fitting onto the shaft within tolerance limits, the bearing can rotate without stress during operation.
The permissible operating range is between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius. Within these limits, both the standard rolling-bearing steel and the sealing element retain their dimensional stability and functional characteristics.
The outer and inner rings, as well as the rolling elements, are made from hardened 100Cr6 bearing steel. The balls are guided by a sheet-steel cage, which ensures that the rolling elements move evenly within the bearing.
