The SKF 6309-2Z deep groove ball bearing, measuring 45x100x25 mm and featuring cover plates on both sides, provides protection against dirt particles.
The 6309-2Z deep groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing from SKF in the Explorer series. It primarily accommodates radial loads whilst also supporting axial forces in both directions. With a bore of 45 mm, an outside diameter of 100 mm and a width of 25 mm, this standardised unit is suitable for mechanical engineering and maintenance. It is manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, which gives the raceways and balls high dimensional stability during normal day-to-day operation.
This rolling bearing is primarily used in rotating shaft mountings subject to predominantly radial loads. The rolling elements run with low vibration thanks to the guided sheet steel cage. As the cylindrical outer ring is manufactured without a flange or groove, the bearing can be fitted directly into smooth housing bores. It withstands both constant and varying loads during normal operation.
The suffix -2Z denotes two non-contact gap seals made from profiled sheet metal on both end faces. These discs keep coarse dust and foreign particles out of the interior without generating additional friction or heat. The standard radial bearing clearance ensures proper rolling action after mounting on the shaft at operating temperatures between –20 and +120 degrees Celsius. The tolerance class P0/PN (corresponding to ABEC 1) serves as the basis for planning when selecting the fit.
With an internal diameter of 45 mm, an external diameter of 100 mm and a total width of 25 mm, the bearing complies with the standardised main dimensions. This allows it to be fitted directly into the corresponding bearing seats without any adjustments to the mounting dimensions on the shaft or housing.
The suffix -2Z denotes cover plates made of sheet steel fitted on both sides. They form a tight sealing gap with the inner ring and keep out coarse dirt particles. As they operate without contact, there is no friction-induced loss of speed.
The permissible operating temperature range for the bearing is between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius. Within this range, the 100Cr6 roller bearing steel, the sheet steel cage and the sheet steel end plates retain their mechanical stability, and the normal radial bearing clearance remains within the specified operating range.
The bearing is designed with a standard radial clearance. With typical fit selections, this radial operating clearance is sufficient to compensate for the elastic expansion of the inner ring during assembly without causing stress in the rolling elements.
Inside, a sheet steel cage guides the balls at regular intervals. This type of cage is characterised by its low weight, takes up little space within the rolling chamber and is suitable for standard speeds as well as varying load directions.
The bearing complies with tolerance class P0/PN (comparable to ABEC 1). The running accuracy, roundness and dimensional deviations of the bore and outer ring therefore meet the standardised requirements of the mechanical and plant engineering sectors.
