The SKF 6309/C3 deep groove ball bearing, with a 45 mm bore and increased bearing clearance, ensures low-friction operation during thermal expansion.
The 6309 /C3 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing with an inner diameter of 45 mm, an outer diameter of 100 mm and a width of 25 mm. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, this design primarily accommodates radial forces as well as axial loads in both directions. The open design without sealing washers allows unimpeded circulation of lubricants within the housing and is suitable for protected installation spaces in mechanical engineering.
This bearing is primarily used in enclosed housing designs where the lubricant supply is provided externally via the installation space using oil or grease. Thanks to the integrated sheet steel cage, the rolling bearing remains dimensionally stable even under dynamic loads. As the bearing is of an open design, there are no friction losses caused by rubbing seal lips. This is particularly advantageous for industrial applications where low-friction operation is required within the specified temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees.
The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. This version is particularly recommended where temperature differences between the rotating shaft and the surrounding housing are expected during operation. If the inner ring expands more than the outer ring due to operating heat, the increased radial clearance compensates for this difference. Even with tight fits on the shaft, sufficient operating clearance is maintained to prevent the rolling elements from seizing.
The dimensions are 45 mm for the bore, 100 mm for the outer diameter and 25 mm for the width. These dimensions comply with the standard specifications for the 6309 series. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with standard conditions. It allows the rolling elements between the raceways greater freedom of movement. This reduces stresses within the bearing when tight fits or the heating of the shaft and housing cause radial expansion.
Open bearings do not have integrated sealing or cover plates, which eliminates friction losses caused by rubbing sealing lips. This design is used when the bearing location is sealed by the surrounding housing and lubricants such as oil or grease are to reach the rolling elements unimpeded.
This roller bearing, made from standard bearing steel with a sheet steel cage, is specified for a temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees. As no temperature-sensitive plastic seals are fitted, the bearing is suitable for more thermally demanding environments, provided the lubricant is designed for this range.
Inside, a stamped sheet-steel cage keeps the rolling elements at a uniform distance apart. Sheet-steel cages are resistant to common mineral and synthetic lubricants and can withstand typical impact loads during operation.
The bearing complies with tolerance class P0 or Normal (PN), which corresponds to the ABEC 1 classification in the US. This standard accuracy class meets the requirements of the mechanical and plant engineering sectors in terms of dimensional accuracy, roundness and axial run-out.
