The SKF single-row deep groove ball bearing 6308 -2RS1/C3, measuring 40x90x23 mm, features ground seals on both sides and a slightly increased C3 radial clearance.
The SKF 6308 -2RS1/C3 deep groove ball bearing primarily accommodates radial loads as well as axial forces in both directions. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, this single-row bearing is characterised by its dimensional stability. With a bore of 40 mm, an outside diameter of 90 mm and a width of 23 mm, the component fits precisely onto cylindrical shafts. The robust sheet steel cage reliably guides the rolling elements at operating temperatures ranging from –20 to +120 degrees Celsius.
This rolling bearing is ideal for use in bearing assemblies and drives where dirt particles must be kept out. The abutment seals on both sides help to repel dust and splash water and retain the lubricant within the bearing. Thanks to the slightly increased C3 bearing clearance, the deep groove ball bearing is particularly suitable for applications involving operational heating or tight fits on the shaft, as the remaining radial clearance reduces the risk of the rolling elements seizing.
The 2RS1 design comprises two sealing discs that are in contact with the inner ring on both sides. This design protects the raceways from environmental influences and often eliminates the need for additional sealing elements in the housing. The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. If the inner ring expands more than the outer ring due to heat build-up during operation, the C3 bearing clearance compensates for this thermal expansion and contributes to smooth running.
With an internal diameter of 40 mm, an external diameter of 90 mm and a width of 23 mm, this design complies with the standardised metric series. The outer ring is cylindrical in shape and has neither a flange nor a groove, which facilitates standardised installation in bearing housings with the appropriate tolerances.
C3 denotes a slightly increased internal radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This increased clearance between the balls and raceways is required when press-fit installations constrict the bearing or when temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings. As a result, the balls run with low friction even under thermal stress, without any tension building up.
Sealing discs fitted on both sides come into direct contact with the inner ring and seal the bearing chamber against the ingress of dust, moisture and foreign particles. This sealing action helps to limit lubricant leakage during operation and protects the internal rolling elements across the entire permissible temperature range.
The permissible operating range for this design is between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius. This range is limited by the material of the sliding seals and the lubricant used inside the bearing. Within this temperature range, the roller bearing steel, sheet steel cage and sealing lips retain their mechanical stability and functionality.
A sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements at a uniform distance within the raceways. The sheet steel construction is characterised by dimensional stability combined with low weight and reliably withstands mechanical vibrations during operation. The cage is suitable for the intended industrial speed ranges of the series.
The outer ring, inner ring and rolling elements are made from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6. This material offers high compressive strength, dimensional stability and wear resistance in the contact area of the rolling elements. It meets the requirements of tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1 for long-life radial bearings in industrial assemblies.
