The SKF 6305/C3 single-row deep groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 25x62x17 mm and a C3 clearance, offers stable operation in the event of thermal shaft expansion.
The 6305/C3 deep groove ball bearing is a versatile rolling bearing designed for predominantly radial loads as well as moderate axial forces. This single-row model from SKF has a bore of 25 mm, an outside diameter of 62 mm and a width of 17 mm. Both the raceways and the rolling elements are made of standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6). As an open bearing without integrated seals, the design relies on lubrication via the surrounding machine housing. A robust sheet steel cage guides the balls evenly along the raceways.
Design engineers use this deep-groove ball bearing when shafts need to be supported at higher speeds and thermal expansion needs to be compensated for. Typical applications are found in general mechanical engineering, where there is a clean, lubricated housing environment. As the bearing is open at both ends, the lubricant can circulate freely. At the same time, the bearing location requires a housing-side seal to protect against dirt particles and moisture. Manufacture to tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1) ensures precise concentricity in standardised bearing seats.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This internal clearance helps to ensure that the bearing does not become unduly stressed due to operational heating or tight fits. If the inner ring is fitted to the shaft with a tight fit, it expands slightly, reducing the radial clearance. In the event of thermal differences between the inner and outer rings, the C3 clearance compensates for these variations. The bearing is designed for a temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees and is suitable for demanding thermal conditions.
A single-row radial ball bearing from SKF with a 25 mm bore, 62 mm outer diameter and 17 mm width. It has an increased clearance (C3) and is made from 100Cr6 rolling-element bearing steel with a sheet steel cage. The open design, without sealing washers, allows it to be used in oil- or grease-lubricated housings.
The designation C3 indicates that the radial bearing clearance is greater than the standard. This additional clearance between the rolling elements and raceways compensates for fit allowances during installation and for thermal expansion of the shaft and inner ring during operation, without impairing concentricity.
The specified temperature range is from -20 to +150 degrees. As no sensitive plastic seals are used, the components made from 100Cr6 steel and sheet steel are suitable for applications where significant heat is generated within the housing.
An open bearing does not come factory-fitted with a sealed grease filling and sealing lips. You lubricate the bearing through the housing using a suitable oil or grease. Furthermore, the open design requires external sealing elements on the housing covers to keep out dirt and moisture.
The bearing is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. This standard defines the permissible dimensional and running tolerances for industrial applications. It enables precise fitting onto standard shafts and into housing bores in general mechanical engineering.
As a radial deep-groove ball bearing, this design primarily absorbs transverse forces perpendicular to the shaft. Thanks to the deep raceways of the inner and outer rings, the component is also suitable for absorbing moderate axial forces in both directions during normal operation.
