The SKF 6303-2Z deep-groove ball bearing, with main dimensions of 17 × 47 × 14 mm, provides a compact bearing solution for both radial and axial loads.
This single-row deep-groove ball bearing 6303-2Z belongs to the SKF Explorer performance class and is made from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6). As a versatile rolling bearing, the design primarily absorbs radial forces, but also supports axial forces in both directions thanks to the deep raceways in the inner and outer rings. The sheet metal shields fitted on both sides protect the interior from coarse dirt particles, whilst a sturdy sheet steel cage precisely maintains the spacing between the rolling elements.
The bearing is designed to support shafts with a diameter of 17 mm under radial and moderate axial loads. As the cylindrical outer ring has no flange or ring groove, the component fits flush into smooth housing bores. This design is suitable for dry environments where mechanical protection against the ingress of solid particles is required and low-friction operation is a priority.
The suffix -2Z denotes two non-contact gap seals made from profiled sheet steel. Unlike abiding seals, these sheet metal discs do not generate any additional frictional heat, thereby maintaining the speed limits. In combination with the standard radial bearing clearance and tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1), the assembly operates with low vibration. At operating temperatures between –20 and +120 degrees, the component meets standard industrial application requirements.
With a cylindrical bore of 17 mm, an external diameter of 47 mm and a width of 14 mm, this model complies with standard dimensions. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove, which simplifies installation in standard housing bores.
The suffix -2Z denotes cover discs made of profiled sheet steel, pressed in on both sides. These discs form a non-contact sealing gap with the inner ring. They keep out coarse dust and solid particles and help to retain lubricant within the bearing chamber without causing any frictional drag.
The ball bearing is manufactured with standard radial clearance. This design is tailored to standard operating conditions, where neither exceptional temperature differences between the inner and outer rings nor excessively tight fits require a different radial clearance.
The specified temperature range is from -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. The 100Cr6 roller bearing steel, the robust sheet steel cage and the metal end plates are designed for continuous use within this temperature range.
Inside, a sturdy sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements along their raceway. The sheet steel cage offers high dimensional stability whilst being lightweight, and leaves sufficient space inside for the required lubricant.
The dimensional and running accuracy complies with tolerance classes P0 and PN respectively, which are equivalent to the international ABEC 1 specification. This standard tolerance meets the standard requirements for smooth running and fitting accuracy in mechanical engineering.
