The SKF 6302-2Z deep-groove ball bearing, measuring 15 × 42 × 13 mm, features sheet metal shields on both sides for protected high-speed applications.
The SKF 6302-2Z deep groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing made from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel, designed for combined radial and axial loads. With a bore of 15 mm, an outside diameter of 42 mm and a width of 13 mm, its geometry complies with common industry standards. The integrated sheet steel cage reliably guides the rolling elements whilst maintaining a low weight. The SKF Explorer design is characterised by an optimised internal geometry and refined raceway surfaces.
This single-row ball bearing is primarily used in rotating systems where radial forces predominate and moderate axial forces in both directions need to be supported. Typical applications include bearings in general mechanical engineering involving continuous rotational movement. Thanks to the non-contacting sheet metal cover plates, the component is suitable for applications involving higher speeds, as no additional frictional heat is generated in the sealing gap. The permissible temperature range is from –20 to +120 degrees Celsius.
The double-sided cover with metal cover plates (designation -2Z) protects the bearing interior from coarse dirt particles and reduces the risk of grease leakage. As the plates do not come into contact with the rotating inner ring, the frictional torque remains minimal. The standard radial bearing clearance ensures low-vibration operation with typical fit selections and moderate operating temperatures. In environments with fine dust or splashing water, designers should alternatively consider contact seals.
The roller bearing has a bore of 15 mm, an outer diameter of 42 mm and a width of 13 mm. With these key dimensions, this version fits into standardised bearing seats in machinery and units. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove.
The designation -2Z indicates cover plates made of pressed sheet steel fitted on both sides. These plates form a narrow gap with the inner ring and protect the rolling element chamber from dust and solid foreign particles. Unlike contact rubber seals, they do not cause any additional friction, which means high speeds remain possible.
Normal bearing clearance means that, when unmounted, the internal radial clearance corresponds to the standard values without any increase or decrease in clearance. Once fitted onto the shaft and housing, sufficient operating clearance remains to ensure smooth running. This design is suitable for conventional operating conditions without extreme temperature differences.
The permissible operating range is between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius. Within these temperature limits, both the 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel and the sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability. When operating close to the limit values, care must be taken to ensure that the lubricant used is thermally suitable in order to prevent insufficient lubrication.
The component is manufactured to tolerance class P0, or standard tolerance (equivalent to ABEC 1). This class defines the permissible deviations in dimensions, form and running accuracy for industrial mass production. It provides the required concentricity for rotating shafts in standard mechanical engineering designs.
Both the balls and the bearing rings are made from standard rolling bearing steel 100Cr6. A sturdy sheet steel cage is integrated to guide the rolling elements. This type of cage is characterised by its low mass, takes up little space inside the bearing and can easily withstand the permissible operating temperatures.
