The SKF 629-Z single-row deep groove ball bearing, measuring 9x26x8 mm, offers one-sided protection against coarse dirt whilst maintaining low frictional resistance.
The SKF 629-Z deep groove ball bearing is a compact, single-row radial ball bearing designed for precise rotational movements. With a bore of 9 mm, an outside diameter of 26 mm and a width of 8 mm, this rolling bearing is suitable for space-saving assemblies and small drives. Manufactured from standard rolling-element bearing steel (100Cr6), the bearing features rolling elements and raceways with standard radial clearance in tolerance class P0/PN for a wide range of industrial applications.
The 629-Z deep groove ball bearing is particularly suitable for compact shaft mountings where predominantly radial forces and low axial loads occur. Typical applications include compact small drives and precision mechanical device assemblies. Thanks to the robust sheet steel cage, operation remains low-vibration even during continuous rotation. Designs make specific use of the open rear side to supply lubricant from a sealed oil or grease chamber, whilst the sheet metal cover protects the opposite side.
The single-sided Z-cover mechanically shields the interior of the bearing against larger dirt particles without generating additional frictional resistance. As the gap seal operates without contact, heat generation remains lower than with abrasive rubber seals. The bearing is designed for a temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees. During installation, care must be taken to ensure that the unprotected side is shielded from dust ingress or moisture, unless a lubricated housing is in place.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 9 mm, an outer diameter of 26 mm and a width of 8 mm. The cylindrical outer ring has no flange or groove. Thanks to these standardised key dimensions, the roller bearing can be fitted directly into suitable housing bores and onto corresponding shaft seats.
The ‘Z’ designation indicates a cover plate made of sheet steel fitted on one side. This split seal does not come into contact with the inner ring and therefore does not cause any additional friction or excessive heating. Whilst the closed side protects against coarse foreign particles, the open opposite side allows for relubrication via the system’s lubrication chamber where necessary.
The permissible operating temperature range is between -20 and +150 degrees. The materials, comprising standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) and the dimensionally stable sheet steel cage, retain their dimensional stability even under thermal stress. To ensure trouble-free operation, the lubricant used must also be suitable for the prevailing operating temperatures of the respective assembly.
Normal radial bearing clearance refers to the standard radial clearance between the balls and the raceways when the bearing is in its unassembled state. This design is suitable for standard fit conditions and moderate temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. It prevents the rolling elements from becoming excessively jammed, provided that no exceptional thermal expansion occurs during operation.
With tolerance class P0/PN (equivalent to ABEC 1), the bearing meets the standard requirements for dimensional and geometric accuracy in industrial applications. This class defines the permissible tolerances for dimensional, geometric and running accuracy. It offers sufficient concentricity for drives and general mechanical assemblies without specific precision requirements.
A robust sheet steel cage maintains a uniform spacing between the balls. Sheet steel cages offer high mechanical strength whilst being lightweight. They are resistant to most lubricants and help to ensure smooth running during operation.
