The FAG 625-2Z deep-groove ball bearing is a compact miniature bearing with a 5 mm bore, an outer diameter of 16 mm and end caps on both sides.
The single-row deep groove ball bearing 625 -2Z from FAG is suitable for compact designs with limited installation space. With an inner diameter of 5 mm, an outer diameter of 16 mm and a width of 5 mm, this rolling bearing primarily withstands radial loads as well as moderate axial forces. The rings and rolling elements are made from standard rolling-bearing steel 100Cr6. A guided sheet steel cage maintains the correct spacing between the rolling elements. Thanks to the standard radial clearance, the miniature ball bearing runs smoothly under standard operating conditions within a temperature range of –30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
The 625-2Z deep groove ball bearing is primarily used in precision mechanical assemblies and compact drive units. Its cylindrical design, without a flange or groove on the outer ring, allows the bearing unit to be integrated into housing bores in a space-saving manner. Maintenance engineers and designers use these components wherever shafts with a 5 mm diameter need to be supported. The sheet metal cover plates on both sides protect the interior from coarse dirt particles, whilst ensuring the bearing continues to run smoothly.
The suffix ‘-2Z’ denotes sheet steel cover plates fitted on both sides, which form a non-contact gap seal. Compared to abrasive rubber seals, these metal covers do not cause any additional friction, which facilitates higher speeds and a lower starting torque. This design is suitable for applications in dust-free to moderately dusty environments. With the standard tolerance class P0 (PN or ABEC 1), the bearing meets common industrial precision requirements for direct replacement in repair and series production.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 5 mm, an outside diameter of 16 mm and a width across flats of 5 mm. The rings and rolling elements are made from 100Cr6 bearing steel. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a raceway groove, which allows for flush mounting in cylindrical housings.
The suffix -2Z indicates that sheet metal cover discs are fitted on both sides. These discs form a narrow gap with the inner ring and help to reduce the ingress of larger dirt particles and the escape of lubricant. As the discs operate without contact, no noticeable frictional heat is generated, allowing the bearing to rotate very smoothly.
This bearing has the standard radial bearing clearance (standard clearance). This standard value offers a balanced compromise between zero clearance and smooth running for typical fits and average operating temperatures. There is no specific ‘C’ designation for increased or reduced clearance in this standard version.
The permissible operating range is between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius. Both the 100Cr6 roller bearing steel and the sheet steel cage and metal end plates are designed for this temperature range. In applications within these limits, the dimensional stability of the components remains consistent.
The model complies with the standard tolerance class P0 or PN, which corresponds to the ABEC 1 classification in international terminology. This class covers the standard dimensional, geometric and running accuracies required in mechanical engineering and precision engineering, ensuring that the bearing fits seamlessly into standardised bearing seats.
Inside the bearing, a sheet steel cage guides the row of balls evenly along the raceway. Sheet steel is vibration-resistant and temperature-insensitive within the specified range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. It guides the balls evenly without adding any unnecessary weight.
