The SKF 625-2Z deep groove ball bearing has compact dimensions of 5 × 16 × 5 mm and is protected against coarse particles by sheet metal covers on both sides.
The SKF 625-2Z deep groove ball bearing is a compact, single-row miniature roller bearing designed for precision mechanical applications. The bearing has a bore of 5 mm, an outside diameter of 16 mm and a width of 5 mm. As part of the SKF Explorer performance class, this roller bearing combines a tailored internal geometry with roller bearing steel (100Cr6). The design primarily accommodates radial loads and supports shafts whilst requiring minimal installation space.
This miniature deep-groove ball bearing is primarily used where installation space and mass are severely limited. Typical applications include compact precision mechanical assemblies and measuring devices. As the single-row bearing can accommodate not only radial forces but also moderate axial forces in both directions, it is suitable for use as a fixed or floating bearing on slender shafts. A cylindrical outer ring without a flange or groove facilitates direct press-fitting into smooth housing bores.
The double-sided cover with non-contacting cover plates made of sheet steel (suffix -2Z) shields the interior of the bearing against the ingress of larger dirt particles and dust. At the same time, the discs retain the grease applied at the factory inside the bearing. As the gap seals do not come into contact with the inner ring, no additional friction is generated. This ensures smooth start-up behaviour and high speeds at operating temperatures between –20 and +120 degrees.
With a bore of 5 mm, an outside diameter of 16 mm and a total width of 5 mm, the bearing has standardised miniature dimensions. Thanks to this compact cross-section, the single-row miniature bearing is suitable for space-saving shaft mountings in small housings and assemblies.
Two non-contacting cover plates made of pressed sheet steel cover the bearing on both sides. These plates are seated in the outer ring and form a narrow gap with the inner ring. They keep out dirt particles and reduce grease leakage without generating any measurable frictional heat.
The specified operating temperature range for this bearing is between -20 and +120 degrees. Within this temperature range, the components made of roller bearing steel and the sheet steel cage retain their mechanical strength and dimensional stability.
Manufactured with standard radial bearing clearance (CN), the bearing has a defined clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways when unloaded. This design is intended for standard shaft and housing fits at balanced operating temperatures.
The rings and rolling elements are made of standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6). This case-hardened chromium steel is characterised by high strength, dimensional stability and good wear resistance under cyclic loading.
A sheet steel cage keeps the rolling elements at a uniform distance from one another. The pressed sheet metal construction is lightweight, resistant to standard rolling-bearing greases and suitable for the bearing’s entire temperature range.
