The 624 deep-groove ball bearing from FAG Rolling Bearings provides a compact bearing solution for shafts with a diameter of 4 mm, whilst requiring minimal installation space.
The 624 deep-groove ball bearing is a single-row miniature rolling bearing conforming to the standard tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1). Manufactured from 100Cr6 bearing steel, the component primarily accommodates radial forces as well as light axial loads in both directions. Thanks to the guided sheet steel cage and the flangeless cylindrical outer ring, this design can be fitted into suitable housing bores. The roller bearing is designed for a temperature range of –30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
Miniature bearings of this size are primarily used where small shaft diameters need to be guided precisely and the available installation space is severely restricted. Due to its open design without contact seals, the mechanism starts up with very low rotational resistance. This characteristic is beneficial for applications requiring smooth running, where lubricants can be supplied externally via the surrounding housing.
The open design allows the rolling elements to be relubricated directly with oil or application-specific grease, depending on the specific application. To prevent the ingress of foreign particles and moisture, the surrounding structure should be suitably sealed. The standard radial bearing clearance set at the factory provides a balanced operating clearance for typical ambient temperatures. Provided there is no extreme thermal expansion, this bearing clearance ensures smooth and low-vibration operation of the shaft.
With an internal diameter of 4 mm, an external diameter of 13 mm and a width of 5 mm, the 624 deep-groove ball bearing has compact dimensions. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a snap ring groove. These dimensions make the component a common miniature bearing for space-saving designs.
An open design has no integrated sealing or cover discs. This means there is no frictional resistance caused by rubbing sealing lips, which enables very low starting torques. The open design requires a clean installation environment or external housing seals to keep out dirt particles and ensure that the lubricant remains within the bearing.
Standard radial bearing clearance (often referred to as CN) denotes the internal radial clearance between the rolling elements and raceways when the bearing is new and unloaded. This standard range is suitable for standard installation conditions and fits where there are no extreme temperature differences between the inner and outer rings.
The bearing rings and rolling elements are made from hardened standard bearing steel (100Cr6), which ensures compressive strength and dimensional stability. An integrated cage made from sheet steel ensures that the row of balls is guided and spaced evenly.
The component is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. Within this range, the 100Cr6 rings and the sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability. The lubricant used must be suited to the respective operating temperature in order to maintain the lubricating film.
Tolerance class P0 (equivalent to ABEC 1 and PN) defines the standard accuracy for dimensional, form and running accuracy. It meets the requirements of typical industrial and precision applications where there are no increased special requirements regarding concentricity or tighter tolerances.
