The FAG 6221 single-row deep groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 105 × 190 × 36 mm, is a rolling bearing designed for industrial applications.
The FAG 6221 single-row deep-groove ball bearing accommodates radial loads as well as axial loads in both directions. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, this open roller bearing complies with tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1). Due to its open design, without a flange or integrated seals, the lubricant can be flexibly adapted to the specific operating environment. With a bore of 105 mm, an outer diameter of 190 mm and a width of 36 mm, this version is designed for direct mounting on suitable cylindrical shafts.
This rolling bearing is primarily suitable for industrial applications involving combined loads and continuous rotational movement. The guided sheet steel cage ensures that the rolling elements are kept at a uniform distance apart. As the bearing is designed for a temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees, it can withstand demanding thermal conditions during continuous operation. Experts prefer to use the open design in enclosed spaces with centralised oil or grease lubrication, where friction losses caused by rubbing seals must be avoided.
As the 6221 deep-groove ball bearing is designed without integrated sealing elements, the surrounding structure must prevent the ingress of dirt particles or moisture. The normal radial bearing clearance provides a balanced operating clearance between the rolling elements and raceways for standard fits. The lubrication scheme should be selected to suit the operating speeds and thermal conditions in order to continuously protect the running surfaces, made of standard rolling-element bearing steel, from friction during operation.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 105 mm, an outside diameter of 190 mm and a width of 36 mm. The outer ring has no flange or groove. These standard dimensions allow for a precise fit on cylindrical shaft seats and in suitable bearing housings for industrial equipment.
Open roller bearings do not have any manufacturer-fitted seals or cover plates on their end faces. Lubricants can circulate freely, which is why this design is suitable for oil circulation systems or relubricatable grease chambers. Conversely, the surrounding housing must protect the bearing against the ingress of foreign particles and moisture.
The permissible operating range is between -20 and +150 degrees. Both the raceways and the rolling elements, made from 100Cr6 bearing steel, as well as the sheet steel cage, retain their dimensional stability within this range. At higher operating temperatures, care must be taken to use a temperature-resistant lubricant that maintains a stable lubricating film.
This model is manufactured with standard radial bearing clearance. This design is suitable for standard applications with typical shaft and housing fits, as well as moderate temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. In the case of extreme temperature differences or tight press fits, however, designers usually opt for increased bearing clearance.
The bearing complies with the standard tolerance class P0 or PN, which corresponds internationally to the ABEC 1 classification. This manufacturing precision meets industrial requirements for dimensional accuracy and concentricity. For standard bearings in mechanical engineering, this classification offers a good balance between dimensional accuracy and cost-effectiveness.
FAG fits this bearing with a sheet-steel cage. This type of cage is characterised by its low weight and mechanical stability. It guides the rolling elements securely in the raceways and withstands the stresses within the specified temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees.
