The SKF 6213 /C3 single-row deep-groove ball bearing, measuring 65x120x23 mm and featuring increased bearing clearance, offers suitable running characteristics under thermal loads.
The SKF 6213/C3 deep groove ball bearing is a versatile rolling bearing for industrial drive and guidance systems. With a bore of 65 mm, an outside diameter of 120 mm and a width of 23 mm, this single-row bearing primarily accommodates radial forces as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. The version made from standard 100Cr6 rolling-element bearing steel features a robust sheet steel cage. Design engineers and maintenance technicians opt for this size when components with a defined bearing clearance are required.
This rolling bearing is suitable for rotating shafts in industrial drives and machinery. As it is an open bearing without integrated sealing washers, it can be flexibly integrated into enclosed housings with an existing oil or grease lubrication circuit. The open design also promotes the circulation of lubricants and reduces the friction torque compared to contact-sealed variants. This makes the component ideal for applications with a continuous supply of lubricant.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared to standard bearing clearance. This additional clearance between the rolling elements and raceways compensates for thermal expansion that may occur during operation due to heat build-up on the shaft or high ambient temperatures. Furthermore, the C3 bearing clearance compensates for radial expansion of the inner ring in the case of fixed fits. You should select this variant if temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings, or if tight fits reduce the bearing clearance after installation.
With an internal diameter of 65 mm, an external diameter of 120 mm and a width of 23 mm, the bearing has standardised main dimensions. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove. This allows for direct mounting on suitable shafts and in standardised housing bores in mechanical and plant engineering.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -20 to +150 degrees. The dimensionally stable components made from standard roller bearing steel and the integrated sheet steel cage can withstand these temperatures. When designing the system, you should select a lubricant suitable for the relevant temperature range, as the lubricant has a significant influence on the thermal operating limits.
As an open roller bearing, this design deliberately does not incorporate abiding sealing lips or cover plates. This minimises friction, reduces heat build-up at high speeds and allows for easy relubrication via the surrounding machine housing. In this case, the housing design must provide protection against dust and moisture via external sealing elements such as shaft seals.
The sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements, made of roller bearing steel, evenly along their circular path and prevents the balls from coming into direct contact with one another. The low weight of the sheet steel results in low inertial forces, which has a positive effect on start-up behaviour. Furthermore, the material is resistant to many industrial lubricants and operating temperatures of up to +150 degrees.
Manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN (also known internationally as ABEC 1), the bearing meets the requirements of standard mechanical engineering. This accuracy class forms the basis for reliable fits on shafts and in housings. For standard applications, this tolerance class offers a good balance between manufacturing precision and cost-effective assembly.
Compared with standard bearings, the C3 version offers increased radial clearance prior to installation. Standard bearings have a tighter clearance, which is designed to ensure even temperature distribution. The C3 specification counteracts the risk of the bearing becoming stressed due to heating or tight fits. This ensures that the bearing continues to run smoothly even if the shaft expands more than the housing during operation.
