The FAG 6209-Z deep-groove ball bearing, measuring 45 x 85 x 19 mm and featuring a single-sided sheet metal cover, provides protection against external dirt particles.
The 6209-Z deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing made from standard rolling bearing steel (100Cr6) with a bore of 45 mm, an outer diameter of 85 mm and a width of 19 mm. The design primarily accommodates radial loads and guides shafts within the housing. Thanks to its manufacture to tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1, this rolling bearing fits precisely into industrial designs.
In general mechanical engineering, this design is used to support rotating components. As deep-groove ball bearings can accommodate not only high radial forces but also moderate axial forces in both directions, they are suitable for a wide range of mechanical drives. The guided sheet steel cage maintains an even spacing between the rolling elements and ensures smooth running at operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
The ‘-Z’ designation refers to a non-contact gap seal made of profiled sheet metal on one side of the bearing. This design protects the internal components from coarse particles, whilst the opposite open side allows for lubricant exchange via a housing system. Furthermore, the non-contact cover ring does not generate any additional friction on the inner ring. Before installation, it should be checked whether the standard radial bearing clearance is suitable for the operating temperatures and shaft fits.
This radial ball bearing has an inner diameter of 45 mm, an outer diameter of 85 mm and a total width of 19 mm. The cylindrical outer ring has no groove or flange, which facilitates direct installation into standardised housing bores.
The suffix -Z denotes a cover plate made of sheet steel fitted on one side. This split seal protects the rolling elements from contamination without causing additional friction on the inner ring. The other side remains open, allowing grease or lubricating oil to circulate out of the housing.
The inner and outer rings, as well as the rolling elements, are made from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6. This material withstands the compressive stresses arising from rolling contact. A robust sheet steel cage is used to guide the balls, keeping the rolling elements at a uniform distance from one another.
The unit is designed for an operating temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. Within these limits, the dimensional stability of the roller bearing steel and the strength of the sheet steel cage are maintained. A lubricant approved for this temperature range is also crucial for continuous operation.
Standard radial bearing clearance means that the radial clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways lies within the standardised basic range. This design is suitable for standard fits and typical operating temperatures, where there are no extreme temperature differences between the shaft and the housing.
The bearing is manufactured to tolerance class P0 or PN, which corresponds to the ABEC-1 standard. This class defines standardised dimensional and concentricity tolerances for industrial applications, which, when the bearing seats are machined correctly, ensure low-vibration and smooth operation.
