The SKF 6208 -2Z/C3 deep-groove ball bearing (40x80x18 mm) features non-contacting sheet metal shims and increased C3 bearing clearance for radial loads at higher operating temperatures.
The single-row deep groove ball bearing 6208 -2Z/C3 is a standardised rolling bearing made from conventional 100Cr6 bearing steel. The bearing is primarily designed to accommodate radial forces as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. This version features a 40 mm bore, an outer diameter of 80 mm and a width of 18 mm. Thanks to its manufacture to standard tolerance P0, the component can be fitted precisely onto cylindrical shafts. A sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements at a uniform distance within the bearing.
This ball bearing is primarily used in bearing arrangements involving high speeds and predominantly radial loads. In addition to the main load, it accommodates moderate axial forces in both directions. Designed for a temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees, the bearing operates reliably in thermally demanding environments. The flangeless cylindrical outer ring allows for direct installation in standardised housing bores.
The sheet steel cover plates on both sides (designation 2Z) keep coarse dirt particles out of the bearing interior. As the covers operate without contact, they do not generate any additional friction and allow for high speeds. The suffix C3 also indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance. This increased clearance between the balls and raceways serves to compensate for thermal expansion caused by operational heating or to accommodate reduced residual clearance resulting from tight fits on the shaft and housing.
The bearing has a bore of 40 mm, an outside diameter of 80 mm and a width across flats of 18 mm. This version has a cylindrical outer ring without a groove or flange. These key dimensions allow the roller bearing to be fitted directly onto suitable shaft seats and into standardised housing bores.
The abbreviation 2Z refers to cover plates made of profiled sheet steel fitted on both sides. These plates form a non-contacting gap with the inner ring and keep out coarser particles of dirt. As there is no abrasive contact, hardly any additional heat is generated during operation, which facilitates high rotational speeds.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This clearance helps to ensure that the bearing rotates freely when it heats up during operation. Even if the inner or outer rings are fitted with a tight fit, thereby reducing the operating clearance, the rolling elements retain their freedom of movement.
The SKF deep-groove ball bearing 6208-2Z/C3 is designed for an operating temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees. This range is determined by the material properties of the standard rolling-element bearing steel 100Cr6 and the sheet metal cover plates fitted. Modified special bearings are required for operating conditions outside this range.
A sheet steel cage guides the balls evenly along the raceway. The cage is characterised by its low weight and resistance to lubricants. It is suitable for standard applications involving normal levels of vibration and shock loads in mechanical engineering.
The bearing is manufactured to standard tolerances, corresponding to classes P0, PN and ABEC 1 respectively. This precision grade meets the standard requirements of mechanical engineering for dimensional, form and concentricity tolerances. Standard bearing seats on the shaft and housing are sufficient for installation.
