The SKF 6207 NR deep groove ball bearing (35x72x17 mm) enables space-saving axial fixation in the housing thanks to its integrated ring groove with retaining ring.
The 6207 NR deep groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) with a bore of 35 mm, an outside diameter of 72 mm and a width of 17 mm. As an open bearing, it is suitable for designs with external housing lubrication or oil circulation. An integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly and with low friction during operation. The model complies with the standard tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1) and covers a temperature range from –20 to +150 degrees Celsius.
This rolling bearing primarily absorbs radial forces as well as moderate axial loads in both directions. The version with a ring groove and snap ring is primarily used where designs require axial positioning within the housing without additional housing shoulders or spacer sleeves. The snap ring saves installation space and simplifies the housing design by holding the bearing directly in its axial position.
The snap ring on the outer ring secures the rolling bearing positively in the axial direction within the housing. Before installation, it must be checked whether the housing bore has the appropriate recess for the snap ring. As this open bearing is designed without an integrated seal, external housing seals protect the interior from dirt particles. The standard radial bearing clearance is designed for standard operating conditions and common fits.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 35 mm, an outer diameter of 72 mm and a width of 17 mm. These dimensions allow it to be fitted in place of existing bearings with the same nominal sizes. The outer ring also features a circumferential groove in which a matching retaining ring is seated.
The designation NR stands for a ring groove (N) in the outer ring with a corresponding retaining ring (R). This retaining ring is used to secure the bearing axially directly within the housing bore. This eliminates the need for complex housing shoulders or separate mounting flanges, thereby reducing the installation space required in the axial direction.
As an open roller bearing without sealing or cover plates, this component is not factory-filled with grease. For operation, it must be suitably lubricated with grease or incorporated into an oil circulation system. Furthermore, the open design requires the housing to be sealed externally against dirt and moisture.
The permissible operating range is from -20 to +150 degrees Celsius. Both the raceways and balls, made from 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel, and the sheet steel cage can withstand these temperatures. When selecting a lubricant, care must be taken to ensure that the oil or grease used is approved for the operating temperature.
Normal bearing clearance provides the standard radial clearance between the rolling elements and raceways when no load is applied. It is suitable for conventional mounting situations with standard fits, where there are no extreme temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. This ensures that the bearings continue to run smoothly even when thermal expansion occurs.
The bearing is manufactured to tolerance class P0 (standard tolerance, comparable to ABEC 1). This class defines the dimensional, geometric and running accuracy required by the industrial standard. It meets the typical requirements of general mechanical engineering and ensures smooth running.
