The SKF 6205 deep groove ball bearing is an open, single-row rolling bearing measuring 25x52x15 mm, designed for radial and axial loads.
The 6205 deep groove ball bearing is a versatile rolling bearing for industrial drives and mechanical assemblies. This single-row bearing from SKF, in the Explorer design, accommodates radial forces as well as axial guidance forces in both directions. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel, the component features a robust sheet steel cage. Thanks to its open design without integrated sealing washers, this ball bearing is particularly suitable for lubricated systems in protected installation spaces.
Open rolling bearings of this type are primarily used in assemblies with their own lubrication circuit, where oil or grease is used to lubricate the raceways. The open design allows unimpeded lubricant exchange around the rolling elements and reduces the friction torque compared with contact-sealed variants. Appropriate housing designs or external shaft seals protect the bearing location from dirt and moisture. In addition, the bearing supports shafts with a diameter of 25 mm under combined radial and axial loads.
This rolling bearing is manufactured to dimensional accuracy in accordance with tolerance class P6 and running accuracy in accordance with P5. In practical terms, this means tighter manufacturing tolerances than with the standard tolerance, which improves the shaft’s concentricity and reduces vibrations during operation. The component is designed with standard radial clearance for a temperature range of –20 to +120 degrees. As there are no sealing elements, external protection against environmental influences within the installation space is required.
With a bore of 25 mm, an external diameter of 52 mm and a width of 15 mm, the component complies with the standardised dimensions. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a groove nor a flange. These key dimensions enable a precise fit on corresponding 25 mm shafts in housing bores with a diameter of 52 mm.
As an open bearing, this design has no integrated seals or cover plates. This allows lubricant from an external oil or lubrication circuit to reach the raceways and rolling elements directly. At the same time, the absence of abrasive seals reduces rotational resistance, but requires the bearing housing to be sealed externally against dust and liquids.
The marking provides information on manufacturing precision: dimensional accuracy complies with Class P6, whilst running accuracy is manufactured to Class P5. Both classes exceed the industrial standard. They contribute to lower runout errors and low-vibration operation of the shaft in demanding machine designs.
The permissible temperature range for this roller bearing is between -20 and +120 degrees. Within these limits, the standard 100Cr6 roller bearing steel used and the sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability. A lubricant that covers this temperature range must be selected for operation.
Manufactured with standard radial bearing clearance, this model is suitable for standard fit conditions and operating conditions. The bearing clearance refers to the radial play between the balls and the raceways when the bearing is unmounted. It ensures that the bearing can rotate freely on the shaft once it has been fitted.
The inner and outer rings, as well as the rolling elements, are made from through-hardened standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6. A dimensionally stable cage made from sheet steel is used to guide the rolling elements. These materials are designed to withstand the loads imposed by radial and axial forces in industrial applications.
