The SKF 6203 deep groove ball bearing offers precise guidance with P6 dimensional accuracy and P5 running accuracy, whilst maintaining compact dimensions of 17 × 40 × 12 mm.
The SKF 6203 single-row deep groove ball bearing is designed primarily to accommodate radial forces as well as moderate axial loads in both directions. Manufactured from standard rolling-element bearing steel (100Cr6) in the SKF Explorer design, this rolling bearing is characterised by a tailored material grade and optimised surface finish. With normal radial clearance, the bearing is suitable for standard operating conditions without excessive thermal expansion or interference fits.
This rolling bearing is primarily used on high-speed rotating shafts where low-noise and low-vibration operation is required. Typical applications can be found in general mechanical engineering as well as in enclosed assemblies with externally supplied lubrication. As this is an open bearing without integrated sealing washers, the installation location requires an external housing seal to protect against dirt and moisture. Lubrication is provided either by oil or by grease applied to specific areas.
The combination of dimensional accuracy to tolerance class P6 and running accuracy to class P5 reduces runout deviations and ensures precise shaft guidance. This minimises vibrations at medium to high speeds. The robust sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements with low friction within a temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. Design engineers should select tight bearing seat tolerances when machining the shaft and housing in order to fully utilise the accuracy of this Explorer design.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 17 mm, an outer diameter of 40 mm and a width of 12 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has no additional grooves or flanges.
An open bearing has neither sealing rings nor cover plates at its ends. As a result, there is no grinding friction caused by the seals, which makes it suitable for use at higher speeds. However, the bearing must be protected from dust by the surrounding housing and continuously supplied with lubricant.
The bearing can be used within an operating temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. Both the 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel and the sheet steel cage are designed to withstand these temperatures.
The dimensional accuracy complies with Class P6, which means tighter tolerances for bore and outer diameter compared with standard bearings. The running accuracy is specified to Class P5, ensuring that flatness and concentricity tolerances are maintained with greater precision. This promotes smooth and even running.
The bearing has a standard radial clearance (Class CN). This standard range is designed for conventional fit specifications and balanced temperature differences between the inner and outer rings, ensuring low-friction operation without excessive preload.
The inner and outer rings, as well as the rolling elements, are made of 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel. The cage, which guides the balls, is made of sheet steel, making it resistant to common mineral oil-based lubricants.
