The SKF 6202 -2Z/C3 deep groove ball bearing, measuring 15x35x11 mm, offers protection against dirt and is suitable for elevated operating temperatures.
The SKF 6202 -2Z/C3 single-row deep groove ball bearing is a versatile rolling bearing designed primarily for radial loads. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) in the Explorer design, this component is characterised by dimensional accuracy to tolerance class P6 and running accuracy to P5. With a bore diameter of 15 mm, an outer diameter of 35 mm and a width of 11 mm, the bearing is suitable for compact designs. The sheet metal shields on both sides protect the bearing’s interior from coarse particles.
This deep-groove ball bearing is particularly suitable for drives and rotating shafts that require consistent rotational speeds. Thanks to the combination of a sheet steel cage and a temperature range of –20 to +120 degrees, the bearing is suitable for typical environmental conditions in general mechanical engineering. Design engineers use the design without a flange or groove on the outer ring for cylindrical housing bores. This version accommodates radial forces as well as moderate axial forces in both directions.
The C3 designation indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance. This increased internal clearance compensates for thermal expansion caused by heat build-up during operation and reduces the risk of stress concentration in the case of tight press fits on the shaft and housing. The abbreviation 2Z stands for sheet metal cover plates fitted on both sides. These gap seals do not make contact with the inner ring in a grinding manner, which keeps friction low whilst simultaneously preventing solid contaminants from entering.
With an internal diameter of 15 mm, an external diameter of 35 mm and a width of 11 mm, the bearing is compact in design. The outer ring is cylindrical and has neither a flange nor a ring groove, which allows it to be fitted into standardised housing bores.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with standard clearance. This additional operating clearance compensates for thermally induced expansion caused by temperature differences and prevents the rolling elements from seizing up in the case of tight fits.
Cover plates on both sides, made from profiled sheet steel, form a non-contact gap seal. They keep dust and solid dirt particles out of the bearing interior and do not create any additional frictional resistance, which limits heat build-up at higher speeds.
The tolerance classes indicate a higher level of manufacturing precision than the standard. The bearing has a dimensional accuracy of Class P6 and a running accuracy of Class P5, which enhances the guidance accuracy of rotating shafts and reduces running noise.
The permissible operating range is between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius. The sheet steel cage and the standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) are designed for this temperature range, making the component suitable for numerous standard industrial applications.
The rings and rolling elements are made from standard 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel, combined with a sheet steel cage. The SKF Explorer specification features an optimised internal geometry and surface finish to ensure even load distribution at the points of contact between the rolling elements.
