The SKF 61817 deep groove ball bearing, with its compact dimensions of 85 × 110 × 13 mm, offers a space-saving bearing solution for predominantly radial loads.
The 61817 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing made from SKF’s standard bearing steel (100Cr6). Thanks to its small cross-section, with an inside diameter of 85 mm and an outside diameter of 110 mm, the component saves valuable installation space. As an open design without an integrated seal, the bearing operates with low friction and is suitable for designs where lubricants are supplied from the outside or where an external seal is fitted.
The 61817 deep-groove ball bearing is primarily designed to accommodate radial forces where radial installation space is limited. Typical applications include general mechanical engineering, gearboxes or drive elements with large shaft diameters and a slim housing design. With suitable lubrication, the bearing operates reliably within a temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees. You can integrate this component wherever lightweight construction and low friction losses are key considerations.
This bearing features a robust sheet steel cage that guides the rolling elements evenly. As no abiding sealing washers are fitted, rotational resistance is minimal. The standard radial bearing clearance promotes smooth running under normal operating conditions. With the standard tolerance class P0/PN (corresponding to ABEC 1), the product meets common requirements for concentricity and dimensional accuracy. When designing the application, ensure a clean environment, as dirt particles can enter the open bearing races unhindered.
With a bore of 85 mm, an outside diameter of 110 mm and a narrow width of 13 mm, this design is classified as a thin-section bearing. The slim cross-section makes it possible to save radial installation space even with relatively large shaft diameters.
An open bearing has neither sealing rings nor cover plates at the ends. The raceways and balls are exposed, which reduces friction to a minimum. Operation requires a clean installation environment and external lubrication, for example via an oil circuit or a customer-supplied housing seal.
Radial bearing clearance refers to the internal clearance between the rolling elements and raceways in the radial direction when the bearing is not fitted. Normal bearing clearance is the standard for average operating temperatures and fits, provided that thermal expansion or interference fits do not cause excessive stress in the components.
The SKF 61817 deep-groove ball bearing is specified for a temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees. This makes the bearing suitable for typical thermal operating conditions in mechanical engineering. In addition to the 100Cr6 material, the lubricant selected for the system is also a key factor in determining the actual operating limits.
The sheet steel cage maintains a fixed distance between the rolling elements and prevents them from coming into contact with one another. The material is characterised by its low weight combined with high strength. Compared with plastic cages, the steel cage is resistant to many standard industrial lubricants and retains its shape throughout the specified temperature range.
Manufactured to tolerance class P0 or PN (corresponding to ABEC 1), the bearing offers the standard tolerance for rolling bearings. This design ensures a balanced combination of dimensional accuracy, precise concentricity and cost-effective interchangeability in mechanical engineering.
