The 6024 -2Z deep-groove ball bearing features a 120 mm bore, an 180 mm outer diameter and a width of 28 mm, with sheet metal end shields on both sides.
The 6024-2Z deep groove ball bearing from FAG is a single-row radial ball bearing designed for demanding industrial applications. With a bore of 120 mm, an outside diameter of 180 mm and a width of 28 mm, this rolling bearing is primarily designed to withstand high radial loads. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6 and fitted with a sheet steel cage, the design covers a wide range of applications. It is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0/PN (corresponding to ABEC 1).
Design engineers and maintenance technicians primarily use this bearing size in general industrial drives and rotating shaft mountings. As the bearing accommodates not only radial forces but also moderate axial loads in both directions, it is suitable for both fixed and floating bearing arrangements. The cylindrical outer ring without a flange allows for direct installation in standardised housing bores. Thanks to its temperature range of –30 to +120 degrees, the component operates reliably even under fluctuating ambient temperature conditions.
The cover plates on both sides, designated 2Z, are made of profiled sheet steel and act as non-contact gap seals. They keep out dirt particles and retain the lubricant inside the bearing. As the sheet metal discs do not come into contact with the rotating inner ring, no additional frictional heat is generated. In conjunction with normal radial bearing clearance, this design is suitable for typical operating temperatures and standard fits.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 120 mm, an external diameter of 180 mm and a total width of 28 mm. These dimensions determine the space required during design and enable a precise fit when replacing bearings during repairs and maintenance work on existing shafts and housings.
The abbreviation -2Z denotes cover discs made of sheet steel fitted on both sides. These discs form a narrow sealing gap with the inner ring, operate without sliding contact and provide protection against solid particles. This keeps the internal friction torque low, which makes them suitable for use at higher speeds compared with contact seals.
This model is manufactured with standard radial bearing clearance, also referred to as CN. The radial bearing clearance describes the range of movement of the balls between the inner and outer rings when the bearing is not installed. The standard version is suitable for regular press fits and standard operating temperatures without extreme thermal expansion of the shaft.
The permissible operating range is from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. Both the 100Cr6 roller bearing steel and the sheet steel cage and metal end plates are designed for this range. For applications close to the upper temperature limit, the suitability of the lubricant used should always be assessed separately.
The bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0 (corresponding to PN or ABEC 1). This tolerance class provides sufficient running accuracy and dimensional accuracy for typical mechanical engineering and drive applications. Shafts and housing bores can be designed accordingly using standard fits commonly available on the market.
The inner and outer rings, as well as the rolling elements, are made from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6. The cage is constructed from sheet steel. It maintains the rolling elements at a uniform distance from one another, reduces friction between the rolling elements and is characterised by its low weight.
