The FAG 6017-C3 single-row deep-groove ball bearing, with an 85 mm bore and increased bearing clearance, offers reliable concentricity under thermal loads.
The 6017-C3 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing from FAG designed for shaft diameters of 85 mm and housing bores of 130 mm. With a width of 22 mm, the design primarily accommodates radial loads as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, the open design operates without integrated sealing washers. It is suitable for use in oil- or grease-lubricated housings where the lubricant is required to circulate freely.
This rolling bearing is typically used in general mechanical engineering and in industrial gearboxes where radial forces and elevated temperatures prevail. As it is designed as an open bearing, the bearing housing must be protected from dirt and moisture by the surrounding casing. A sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements. Designs with external oil circulation or central relubrication benefit from the free flow of lubricant between the inner and outer rings.
The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. This internal clearance serves to compensate for operational thermal expansion when the inner ring becomes warmer than the outer ring during operation. The C3 bearing clearance also compensates for the loss of fit that occurs with fixed press fits on the shaft or in the housing. With tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1) and a permissible temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees, the component meets standard industrial requirements for dimensional accuracy and heat resistance.
With an internal diameter of 85 mm, an external diameter of 130 mm and a width of 22 mm, this design complies with standardised dimensions. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove. This allows for direct replacement in suitable bearing housings used in mechanical engineering.
Open roller bearings do not have abiding sealing lips or cover plates, which means that no additional friction is generated at the sealing surfaces. This design is intended for enclosed assemblies in which lubricating oil or grease can flow unimpeded from the housing to the rolling elements and raceways. An external housing seal protects the bearing housing from particles.
C3 denotes an extended radial bearing clearance compared with the standard. This additional clearance between the balls and raceways is required when high operating temperatures cause the shaft and housing to expand at different rates. Tight fits also reduce bearing clearance during installation, which can be compensated for by C3.
The permissible operating range is between -20 and +150 degrees. Manufactured from 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel and fitted with a sheet steel cage, the components retain their dimensional stability within this range. The thermal stability of the lubricant used is also a key factor for long-term operation.
The design complies with tolerance class P0 or standard tolerance (PN), which corresponds to ABEC 1 in international terminology. This class defines the permissible deviations in terms of roundness, run-out and dimensional accuracy for industrial applications. It meets the requirements for standard shaft bearings in plant and gearbox construction.
The inner and outer rings, as well as the rolling elements, are made from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6. This material is characterised by high hardness and wear resistance. A dimensionally stable cage made of sheet steel, designed for standard operating speeds, ensures the even guidance and spacing of the ball rows.
