The SKF 6016/C3 deep groove ball bearing (80x125x22 mm), with its increased C3 radial clearance, offers reliable running characteristics under thermal loads in industrial applications.
The 6016/C3 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row, open-type rolling bearing, manufactured from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel in the SKF Explorer design. With main dimensions of 80 mm inner diameter, 125 mm outer diameter and 22 mm width, the bearing primarily accommodates radial forces, but also handles axial loads in both directions. A dimensionally stable sheet steel cage guides the balls evenly along the raceway. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a groove, which allows for straightforward integration into cylindrical housing bores.
The open design of the 6016 /C3 deep groove ball bearing does not require integrated cover or sealing washers, meaning that no frictional sealing torque occurs during operation. This is particularly suitable for industrial applications at higher speeds, where lubrication is supplied via an external housing system using oil or grease. The permissible operating temperature range is from –20 to +150 degrees Celsius. The increased dimensional accuracy to tolerance class P6, together with the standard running accuracy PN, ensures smooth concentricity and facilitates position-stable mounting on the shaft.
The abbreviation C3 denotes increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This additional internal clearance between the raceways and rolling elements compensates for thermal expansion during operation. Particularly where there are significant temperature differences between the rotating shaft and the bearing housing, or where fixed fits are used, the increased clearance counteracts premature seizing of the bearing assembly. As the bearing is of an unsealed design, the bearing location must be protected from dirt and moisture by the housing design.
The roller bearing has a bore of 80 mm, an outer diameter of 125 mm and a width of 22 mm. It is a single-row bearing with a cylindrical bore, without a flange or groove on the outer ring. These dimensions correspond to the standard manufacturing specifications for type 6016.
The suffix /C3 indicates increased radial bearing clearance. The bearing has greater internal clearance between the balls and the raceway than a bearing with standard clearance. This is advantageous when temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings during operation, or when tight fits reduce the radial operating clearance.
Without integrated sealing washers, no frictional torque is generated by sealing lips coming into contact, which minimises frictional heat. The lubricant from the housing reaches the balls and raceways unimpeded. An external seal on the bearing housing protects the exposed components from contamination.
A sheet steel cage is fitted inside the bearing. This guides the rolling elements evenly and maintains a constant distance between the balls. The cage is suitable for standard operating temperatures ranging from -20 to +150 degrees Celsius and is resistant to common mineral oil- and synthetic-based lubricants.
This design complies with tolerance class P6 for dimensional accuracy and PN for running accuracy. The tighter tolerances on the internal and external dimensions ensure a precise fit within the housing and on the shaft. This makes it easier to meet the required fit specifications in mechanical and plant engineering.
The permissible operating temperature range is between -20 and +150 degrees Celsius. Both the 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel and the sheet steel cage are designed for these thermal conditions. To ensure safe operation, a lubricant must be selected whose viscosity and specification are suited to the prevailing operating temperature.
