The SKF deep groove ball bearing 6005 -2Z/C3, with a 25 mm bore, non-contact end shields and increased bearing clearance, offers a suitable solution for rotating shafts.
The SKF 6005 -2Z/C3 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing made from case-hardened 100Cr6 rolling-element steel in the Explorer design. It primarily accommodates radial forces as well as axial loads in both directions. The sheet metal covers on both sides protect the grease filling inside whilst keeping out contaminants. Manufactured to the higher dimensional accuracy class P6 and running accuracy class P5, it ensures low-vibration operation.
This bearing is specifically designed for applications involving higher speeds and combined loads. The integrated steel sheet cage guides the rolling elements with low friction. With a permissible operating temperature range of –20 to +120 degrees, the rolling bearing can be operated under demanding thermal conditions. As the outer ring is designed without a flange or groove, the bearing fits precisely into cylindrical housing bores.
The suffix ‘C3’ denotes a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard clearance. This design clearance compensates for thermal expansion caused by heating during operation or dimensional changes resulting from tight fits, thereby preventing the bearing from becoming stressed. The cover plates on both sides, made of sheet steel, form non-contact gap seals. They generate no sliding friction and retain the grease inside the bearing, whilst reducing the ingress of particles.
This roller bearing has an inner diameter of 25 mm, an outer diameter of 47 mm and a width of 12 mm. The outer ring is designed without a groove or flange. Thanks to these standardised dimensions, the component is suitable as a direct replacement part in compatible cylindrical bearing seats.
The designation C3 indicates increased radial clearance compared with standard conditions. This means that, when unassembled, there is greater radial clearance between the balls and the raceways. This design helps to prevent the rolling elements from jamming when the shaft and inner ring heat up during operation or when tight fits are used.
The designation 2Z refers to cover plates made of profiled sheet steel, pressed in on both sides. They form a narrow sealing gap with the inner ring. As there is no direct contact with the rotating surface, these seals operate without frictional wear. They prevent solid contaminants from entering and retain the lubricant inside the bearing without restricting the speed limit.
The permissible operating temperature range is between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius. This range is essentially limited by the lubricant fill and the microstructure of the standard rolling bearing steel 100Cr6. Within this temperature range, the steel cage, rolling elements and rings retain their dimensional stability and load-carrying capacity during continuous operation.
This component combines dimensional accuracy to Class P6 with running accuracy to Class P5. This classification defines tighter tolerance ranges for the main dimensions as well as reduced runout errors on the raceways. This ensures smooth, low-vibration operation and precise guidance of the rotating shaft at high speeds.
