The SKF 6005 deep groove ball bearing is an open, single-row rolling bearing with a 25 mm bore, 47 mm outer diameter and 12 mm width, designed for a wide range of industrial applications.
The single-row deep groove ball bearing 6005 is manufactured by SKF in the Explorer version. It is made from standard rolling bearing steel (100Cr6) and features rolling elements contained within a sheet steel cage. Due to its open design without integrated sealing rings, this roller bearing is particularly suitable for installation environments where sealing is provided by the customer. The design enables low-friction operation with normal radial clearance and covers a temperature range from –20 to +120 degrees Celsius.
The 6005 deep groove ball bearing primarily accommodates radial loads as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. This design is predominantly used in rotating bearing arrangements subject to combined loads. As the outer ring has no flange or groove, the unit can be easily fitted into cylindrical housing bores. The clear passage without sealing washers allows unobstructed lubricant access via the machine’s central oil system.
In this design, the manufacturer combines dimensional accuracy to tolerance class P6 with finer running accuracy to tolerance class P5. Thanks to these tighter manufacturing tolerances, the component exhibits lower run-out errors than standard designs. This promotes low-vibration operation during demanding rotational movements. For design and maintenance, this precision ensures smooth shaft guidance when a dimensionally stable bearing is required for the machine assembly.
This roller bearing has a bore of 25 mm for the shaft seat, an outer diameter of 47 mm and a width of 12 mm. The geometric dimensions comply with the standard series for single-row deep-groove ball bearings of this size, which means that existing components can be quickly identified and replaced in the event of a repair.
An open bearing has neither sealing rings nor cover plates at the ends. This means there are no friction-related wear losses caused by contact seals, which facilitates smooth start-up. However, this design requires a clean installation environment or external housing seals to ensure that lubricating oil can circulate unhindered and that dirt particles are kept out.
The classification indicates the manufacturing accuracy: the component offers dimensional accuracy to Class P6 and even tighter running accuracy to Class P5. Compared with the standard tolerance, these specifications reduce the permissible radial and axial run-out deviations, which contributes to smooth running.
The permissible operating range is between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius. The rings and rolling elements made from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), as well as the integrated sheet steel cage, retain their dimensional stability within this temperature range. When selecting lubricants, ensure that they are approved for these operating temperatures.
The bearing has standard radial clearance. This clearance between the balls and raceways provides the appropriate compensation for typical transition fits on the shaft and housing. It is suitable for standard applications without extreme temperature differences between the inner ring and the outer ring.
The sheet steel cage guides the individual rolling elements at a uniform distance apart and prevents them from coming into contact with one another during operation. It is characterised by its low weight combined with solid mechanical strength. The material is chemically resistant to lubricating greases and common industrial oils.
