The 6003-C3 deep-groove ball bearing from FAG Rolling Bearings, with dimensions of 17 × 35 × 10 mm and increased bearing clearance, ensures reliable operation under thermal stress.
The single-row deep groove ball bearing 6003 -C3 is an open rolling bearing designed primarily for radial loads as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) with a robust sheet steel cage, this bearing from FAG Wälzlager is used in demanding industrial environments. The design complies with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1 and features an outer ring without a flange or groove. With its compact dimensions – a 17 mm bore, 35 mm outer diameter and 10 mm width – this model can be integrated in a variety of ways.
This deep-groove ball bearing is suitable for designs where temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings during operation. With a temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees, this design performs well in industrial bearing arrangements with elevated operating temperatures.
As this is an open bearing without integrated sealing washers, the installation location must be in a clean environment or within a sealed housing. Lubricants such as oil or grease can reach the rolling elements unhindered, which makes it suitable for use with external circulating lubrication.
The C3 designation indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. This additional clearance between the rolling elements and raceways compensates for thermal expansion at operating temperatures up to +150 degrees. Furthermore, the clearance reduces the risk of stress when tight press fits on the shaft or housing cause the inner ring to expand.
Prior to installation, it is important to ensure compatibility with the customer’s sealing arrangement and lubrication system. For dusty environments without a housing seal, sealed bearing variants are preferable.
With an internal diameter of 17 mm, an external diameter of 35 mm and a width of 10 mm, the bearing has standardised main dimensions. It is a single-row roller bearing with a cylindrical bore and a smooth outer ring without a flange or ring groove, designed to fit standard housing bores and shaft seats.
C3 indicates an increased internal radial bearing clearance above the standard range. This design counteracts stress if the shaft and inner ring heat up more than the outer ring during operation. The increased radial clearance also compensates for the constriction that occurs with tight press-fits on the shaft.
As it has no cover or sealing washers of its own, the open design allows free access to the rolling elements and the sheet steel cage. This design offers low friction and can be integrated into enclosed systems that feature centralised oil or grease lubrication. At the same time, the open design allows for straightforward relubrication as part of maintenance work.
The permissible operating range for this version is between -20 and +150 degrees Celsius. Dimensional stability is ensured by the standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6 and the sheet steel cage. At operating temperatures close to the upper limit, care must always be taken to ensure the thermal stability of the external lubricant used.
Manufacture is carried out in accordance with standard tolerance class P0, also known as standard tolerance (PN) or ABEC 1. This tolerance class defines the limit values for dimensional, geometric and running accuracy of rings in mechanical engineering and enables the universal interchangeability of bearings of the same dimensions.
Both the inner and outer rings, as well as the rolling elements, are made from standard 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel. This chromium steel is characterised by its hardness, wear resistance and dimensional stability under load. The guided cage is made of sheet steel, which ensures uniform guidance of the balls at varying speeds.
