The FAG 16003 -2Z deep groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 17x35x8 mm, offers reliable protection against dirt particles under radial loads.
The 16003 -2Z deep groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing to standard tolerance class P0/PN, manufactured from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel. Thanks to its narrow design, with a width of 8 mm, a bore of 17 mm and an outer diameter of 35 mm, this bearing is suitable for compact installations. The design primarily accommodates radial forces as well as axial guidance forces in both directions. A sturdy sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly into the deep raceways of the inner and outer rings.
Designs with limited axial installation space benefit from the narrow cross-section of the 160 series. Compared with conventional standard series, the reduced width of 8 mm enables particularly space-saving bearing arrangements. As the permissible operating temperature range extends from –30 to +120 degrees, the roller bearing reliably covers common thermal operating conditions in industrial mechanical engineering.
The designation -2Z indicates non-contact gap seals made of sheet metal on both sides. These cover plates keep dirt particles and dust out of the bearing interior and help to retain the lubricant within the rolling chamber. As the sealing discs do not rub against the inner ring, no additional friction or heat is generated, which facilitates high rotational speeds. Together with the standard radial clearance (CN), this design is suitable for precise shaft mountings at typical operating temperatures.
This single-row deep-groove ball bearing has a bore of 17 mm for the shaft seat, an outside diameter of 35 mm and a narrow width of 8 mm. The outer ring surface is cylindrical, with no groove or flange. Thanks to these compact main dimensions, the component is particularly suitable for use in housings and assemblies where space is limited.
Two cover plates made of sheet steel, fitted on both sides, protect the rolling element set against the ingress of dust and foreign particles. As the plates fit against the inner ring without coming into contact with it, they prevent friction losses and are suitable for applications requiring low heat generation and smooth running.
With bearing clearance class CN, the bearing has the radial clearance between the rolling elements and raceways, as defined by the manufacturer, when new. It is designed for standard fits and uniform temperature distribution between the shaft and housing. It therefore ensures smooth running under normal operating conditions without excessive preload or play.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. The materials used – the sheet steel cage and the non-contact cover discs – are designed for this temperature range. In the event of extreme thermal conditions, it should be checked in advance whether the thermal expansion of the connecting components requires a different bearing clearance.
The inner ring, outer ring and rolling elements are made from case-hardened standard roller bearing steel of the 100Cr6 grade. This material is characterised by high strength, dimensional stability and fatigue resistance under rolling loads. In industrial operation, it requires proper lubrication to protect the running surfaces from premature wear and corrosive environmental influences.
Inside the bearing, a dimensionally stable cage made of pressed sheet steel keeps the balls at a uniform distance apart. A sheet metal cage keeps moving masses to a minimum and withstands the usual impact and acceleration forces during continuous operation. Furthermore, the open cage design allows sufficient space for the distribution of grease in the area of the ball raceways.
