The SKF 16022 deep groove ball bearing, measuring 110 × 170 × 19 mm, offers a narrow design for radial loads at high speeds.
The 16022 deep groove ball bearing is an open, single-row radial ball bearing from SKF in the Explorer series. With a bore of 110 mm, an outside diameter of 170 mm and a narrow width of 19 mm, this component is suitable for bearing arrangements with limited axial installation space. Manufactured from standard rolling-element bearing steel 100Cr6 and guided by a robust sheet steel cage, the bearing primarily accommodates radial loads as well as moderate axial forces in both directions.
Design engineers and maintenance technicians turn to the 16022 deep-groove ball bearing when rotating shafts need to be precisely supported within compact external dimensions. Typical applications can be found in general mechanical engineering as well as in housing designs with limited axial dimensions. As the bearing is of an open design, the lubricant can circulate freely, depending on the system design. This is particularly suitable for applications operating within enclosed housings and supplied with oil or grease via a central lubrication system.
This bearing combines standard radial bearing clearance with increased dimensional accuracy of class P6, whilst maintaining standard PN running accuracy. The tighter P6 tolerance makes it easier to achieve precise fits on the shaft and housing. In combination with the standard bearing clearance, the system operates with low vibration at standard operating temperatures between –20 and +120 degrees. When installing, ensure that the mating surfaces are clean and that the housing is suitably sealed externally to protect the open bearing from contamination.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 110 mm, an external diameter of 170 mm and a width of 19 mm. These dimensions correspond to a particularly narrow design. Thanks to the ratio of its large diameter to its narrow width, the roller bearing can be fitted to shafts with a diameter of 110 mm whilst saving space.
In this version, the roller bearing is supplied ex-works without either cover plates or mechanical seals. The rolling elements and the sheet steel cage are exposed. This allows the bearing to be lubricated directly via an external lubrication system. However, installation requires a protected housing with a separate housing seal to protect against dirt and moisture.
The permissible operating temperature range extends from -20 to +120 degrees. Within this range, the 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel and the sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability. When designing the bearing arrangement, care must be taken to ensure that the selected lubricant is also approved for use at the relevant temperatures within the operating range.
The designation P6 indicates a tighter dimensional tolerance for the mounting dimensions than the standard. The running accuracy corresponds to the standard PN class. This combination facilitates precise fits on the shaft and in the housing, which contributes to an even load distribution and reduces unwanted clearance during operation.
The standard radial bearing clearance refers to the standard radial clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways when the bearing is unmounted. It is designed for standard fit selections and normal thermal expansion. As a result, the bearing runs quietly and without excessive stress, provided there are no significant temperature differences between the inner and outer rings.
Both the rings and the balls are made from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel. This material is characterised by high strength and wear resistance under rolling loads. A sheet steel cage is used to guide the rolling elements, ensuring even load distribution.
