Deep Groove Ball Bearings SKF 6006 /C3

The SKF 6006/C3 single-row deep groove ball bearing features a 30 mm bore, a 55 mm outer diameter and increased bearing clearance for operating conditions subject to thermal stress.

As an open radial ball bearing, the 6006/C3 is one of the most versatile components in mechanical engineering. SKF manufactures this model in the Explorer version from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel with a sheet steel cage. Due to its design, the bearing primarily absorbs radial forces and supports axial loads acting in both directions. As the bearing remains unsealed, it is primarily suitable for installations with an external lubrication system.

What is the 6006/C3 deep groove ball bearing suitable for in operation?

Design engineers prefer to use this rolling bearing in rotating bearing arrangements where external oil lubrication or regular relubrication is provided. The open design without sealing washers reduces rotational resistance and supports high circumferential speeds. Thanks to its P6 tolerance class (equivalent to ABEC 3), the bearing operates with increased concentricity. This promotes smooth running in dynamic applications and reduces unwanted vibrations in the drivetrain.

When is the increased bearing clearance C3 required in the design?

The C3 designation indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance as supplied. This variant is recommended if the shaft is expected to heat up relative to the housing during operation. Thermal expansion reduces the internal clearance during operation, ensuring that the bearing does not become stressed. Even with tight fits on the shaft and housing, the C3 bearing clearance helps to ensure that sufficient operating clearance remains after press-fitting to allow for smooth running.

What are the dimensions of the 6006/C3 deep-groove ball bearing?

This roller bearing has an inside diameter of 30 mm, an outside diameter of 55 mm and a width across flats of 13 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove.

What does the C3 bearing clearance rating mean?

C3 denotes a larger radial bearing clearance than in the standard version. This additional clearance compensates for thermal expansion at operating temperatures of up to +150 degrees and reduces the risk of the rolling elements becoming jammed in tight fits.

What characteristics does tolerance class P6 entail?

With a tolerance class of P6, corresponding to ABEC 3, the dimensional and running tolerances are tighter than those of standard bearings. The component exhibits lower runout deviations, which improves running accuracy and is intended to reduce wear during continuous operation.

Why is the 6006/C3 deep-groove ball bearing designed as an open bearing?

As there are no integrated sealing washers, there is no friction at the sealing lips. This allows the seal to be used in enclosed housings with a central lubricant supply and makes flushing and relubrication easier whilst the seal is fitted.

What is the operating temperature range of the SKF bearing?

The permissible operating range is between -20 and +150 degrees Celsius. The materials – standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6 and a sheet steel cage – are designed for this temperature range.

What material are the rings and cage made of?

The inner and outer rings, as well as the rolling elements, are made of standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6). The balls are guided by a cage made of pressed sheet steel, which is designed to withstand varying speeds and operating conditions.
