The SKF 6005-2ZNR single-row deep groove ball bearing, measuring 25x47x12 mm, offers protection against dirt and axial housing retention via a snap ring.
The SKF 6005 -2ZNR deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing made from 100Cr6 bearing steel, with a bore diameter of 25 mm, an outer diameter of 47 mm and a width of 12 mm. By combining two sheet metal end plates with a ring groove and snap ring in the outer ring, this rolling bearing combines protection against dirt particles with axial retention in the housing bore. Manufactured as an SKF Explorer design, the bearing features enhanced precision grades of P6 for dimensions and P5 for concentricity.
Design engineers and maintenance engineers use this bearing design primarily in compact housing constructions where shafts and components need to be axially secured. The pre-fitted snap ring provides axial retention directly at the housing shoulder, thereby eliminating the need for separate housing covers or additional retaining rings. At the same time, the deep raceways primarily support radial forces as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. The non-contacting cover plates keep foreign particles out without generating additional heat through frictional wear during continuous operation.
The suffix 2ZNR denotes two key design features: the sheet metal cover on both sides to prevent the ingress of dirt, and the groove with retaining ring for space-saving mounting. As these are non-contact gap seals, the bearing is suitable for applications involving higher speeds without friction losses. The P6 tolerance class for external dimensions and P5 for running accuracy also support low-vibration operation in demanding assemblies. When installing, ensure that the snap ring fits precisely into the housing groove.
The designation 2Z refers to double-sided cover plates made of sheet steel, which protect the interior of the bearing from coarse contaminants without coming into contact with it. The suffix NR indicates that the outer ring has a ring groove with a snap ring fitted, allowing the bearing to be secured axially directly within the housing.
With a bore of 25 mm, an outside diameter of 47 mm and a width of 12 mm, the bearing has standardised main dimensions. Before fitting, check not only the shaft and housing fits but also the required clearance for the retaining ring in the housing.
These specifications indicate a tighter manufacturing tolerance compared with the standard tolerance. Dimensional accuracy P6 ensures smaller deviations in bore, outer diameter and width. Running accuracy P5 reduces the radial and axial runout of the rings, which contributes to smoother running and reduced vibrations during operation.
Type 2Z cover plates are made of profiled sheet steel and form a narrow sealing gap with the inner ring. As they do not come into contact with the rotating surfaces, no additional frictional heat is generated, which means high rotational speeds remain possible. They keep out dust and swarf, but offer less protection against liquids than ablative rubber seals.
When designed with standard radial bearing clearance, the radial clearance serves to compensate for heat-induced expansion of the components and dimensional changes following the press-fitting of the rings. It is suitable for standard operating temperatures and typical fits on shafts and housings.
A sheet steel cage guides the balls at regular intervals along the raceways. The cage is characterised by its low weight and resistance to standard lubricants, and is suitable for a wide range of speeds.
