The FAG 624-2Z deep-groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 4 × 13 × 5 mm, offers a solution with seals on both sides for compact precision applications.
The FAG 624 -2Z deep groove ball bearing is a single-row miniature roller bearing designed for applications with limited installation space. With a bore of 4 mm, an outside diameter of 13 mm and a width of 5 mm, this deep-groove ball bearing primarily accommodates radial loads as well as moderate axial forces. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), the component is characterised by dimensional stability within a temperature range of –30 to +120 degrees Celsius. A sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements within the raceway system.
The 624 -2Z deep-groove ball bearing is typically used in compact devices and precision mechanical assemblies. The bearing is designed for applications where rotational movement is required in a confined space. Thanks to the standard radial clearance, the bearing operates at normal operating temperatures without excessive internal stress.
The cylindrical outer ring without a flange allows for flush mounting in smooth housing bores. The bearing rings accommodate both uniform and alternating radial forces.
The suffix -2Z denotes sheet metal cover plates fitted on both sides. These gap seals keep coarse dirt particles and dust out of the bearing interior without generating friction. This is beneficial for applications involving medium to high speeds, where contacting sealing lips would generate additional heat. Manufacture to tolerance class P0 (corresponding to ABEC 1) means that the miniature bearing complies with current industry standards for dimensional and radial runout accuracy.
This miniature roller bearing has an inside diameter of 4 mm, an outside diameter of 13 mm and a width of 5 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a ring groove nor a flange. Thanks to these standardised dimensions, the component can be fitted precisely into corresponding mounting bores.
The suffix -2Z denotes two non-contacting cover discs made of sheet steel, which are fitted on both sides of the outer ring. They protect the interior from the ingress of solid dirt particles. As there is no sliding contact with the inner ring shoulder, the frictional torque remains low, which makes it suitable for use at higher speeds.
The bearing is designed for operating temperatures between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius. This operating range is based on the thermal resistance of the 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel and the sheet steel cage used. For applications close to the limit values, it is advisable to adjust the fits to account for the thermal linear expansion of the shaft.
The standard radial bearing clearance refers to the radial play specified by the manufacturer when the bearing is unloaded. It compensates for operational thermal expansion and minimal fit allowances between the shaft and the housing. For standard applications in industrial environments, this design offers a good balance between smooth running and radial guidance.
The P0 and ABEC 1 classifications define the basic standard tolerances for rolling bearings in mechanical engineering. This standard specifies permissible deviations for bore, outer diameter and radial run-out. It meets the requirements of common industrial applications where no extreme fine tolerances are specified.
Unlike the open version, the -2Z variant has permanently fitted sheet metal covers on both sides. These keep the lubricants applied by the manufacturer within the bearing chamber and make it more difficult for dust to penetrate. Open bearings, on the other hand, require external housing seals, but in return allow the use of custom lubricants.
