The 62209 -2RSR deep-groove ball bearing, measuring 45 x 85 x 23 mm and featuring a ground seal on both sides, protects against the ingress of dirt in demanding applications.
The FAG 62209 -2RSR deep groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing designed to accommodate radial and moderate axial loads. Compared with standard bearings in the 62 series, this version has an increased width of 23 mm. Manufactured from hardened standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, the rings and rolling elements offer high dimensional stability. The integrated seal ensures that the lubricant remains inside whilst keeping contaminants away from the raceways. The bearing is suitable for rotating shafts in general mechanical engineering.
This deep-groove ball bearing is designed for shaft mountings operating at medium speeds in dusty environments. Thanks to the sliding seal lips, the lubricant remains protected inside, enabling the bearing to support low-maintenance designs within a temperature range of -20 to +100 degrees.
The design is used where compact diameters are required, but where the wider construction necessitates more space for grease. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly and ensures uniform force transmission to the shaft and housing, even during continuous operation.
The designation 2RSR stands for two sealing discs that rub against both sides, mechanically sealing the contact between the outer and inner rings. Compared to open bearings, this creates a slight frictional resistance, which is why the speed limit is slightly lower than with non-contacting cover discs.
Furthermore, this model has standard radial bearing clearance. With standard fits on the 45 mm shaft, the clearance required for operation is maintained after press-fitting. Maintenance engineers do not need to make any special adjustments to the bearing seat for tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1), as the mounting dimensions comply with current standard specifications.
With a bore of 45 mm, an external diameter of 85 mm and a width of 23 mm, this model differs from the slimmer 6209 series. The additional width provides a larger grease reservoir. Before replacing the unit, you should therefore check that the available axial installation space in the housing exactly matches the 23 mm installation width.
The abbreviation 2RSR denotes double-sided, sliding seals. These seals make direct contact with the inner ring. They protect the interior against the ingress of dirt and moisture and help to minimise grease leakage during operation.
The permissible operating range is between -20 and +100 degrees. This range is primarily determined by the sealing material used and the factory-fitted grease filling. At consistently higher operating temperatures, sliding seal lips lose their sealing effectiveness, which is why alternative sealing designs or open-type constructions should be considered in such cases.
With normal radial bearing clearance, the bearing has the standard clearance specified in the standard without the ‘C’ suffix. This clearance compensates for the typical expansion of the inner ring when pressed onto a standard shaft, as well as for normal operational heating. For applications without extreme temperature differences between the shaft and the housing, this rating is the appropriate choice.
The outer and inner rings, as well as the balls, are made from hardened standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6. This material withstands high compressive stresses and ensures high wear resistance of the raceways. The balls are guided by a lightweight sheet steel cage, which keeps the rolling elements spaced apart during operation.
The bearing is manufactured to tolerance class P0, which corresponds to the PN or ABEC 1 classification by international standards. This is the conventional standard tolerance for industrial applications. It allows for trouble-free installation in standardised housing and shaft seats without the need for time-consuming fine-fitting or special reworking.
