The SKF 6221 deep groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 105 × 190 × 36 mm, offers a robust, open bearing solution for predominantly radial loads in conventional mechanical engineering.
The 6221 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing in the SKF Explorer series. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel, this bearing type primarily absorbs radial forces, guides shafts precisely and also supports moderate axial forces in both directions. Due to its unsealed design, the bearing is particularly suitable for assemblies with external housing seals and targeted lubrication via oil or grease.
This rolling bearing primarily absorbs radial forces and, for shaft diameters of 105 mm, simultaneously supports moderate axial loads in both directions. The combination of deep raceways and closely guided rolling elements enables continuous rotational movement under uniform load conditions. The Explorer version is characterised by a specially optimised surface finish on the raceways, which reduces frictional resistance and promotes smooth running of the shaft bearing.
As this model does not have integrated sealing washers, the design focuses on protection against dirt particles. An effective housing seal protects against the ingress of foreign matter and helps to maintain the lubricating film. The bearing features a dimensionally stable sheet steel cage that maintains an even spacing between the rolling elements. With its standard radial clearance and standard tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1), the bearing can be fitted to standardised shaft and housing seats.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 105 mm, an outside diameter of 190 mm and a width across flats of 36 mm. These key dimensions conform to standard industrial specifications for single-row radial deep-groove ball bearings and determine the required installation space on the shaft and in the housing seat.
The open design allows for a direct supply of the lubricant used throughout the system, for example via oil circulation lubrication or regular relubrication. Furthermore, there is no friction caused by rubbing seal lips, which means the rolling bearing operates with a lower friction torque. An external housing sealing system protects the interior of the bearing from contamination.
Standard radial bearing clearance (often referred to as CN) describes the standard radial clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways when the bearing is unmounted. This design is intended for typical operating temperatures and standard fits, where the inner and outer rings do not expand to a significantly different extent during operation.
The bearing is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. The standard roller bearing steel and the sheet steel cage remain dimensionally and structurally stable within this temperature range, provided that the lubricant used is approved for the relevant temperature range.
In this design, a sheet steel cage guides the balls along the raceways. Sheet steel cages offer high strength combined with low weight, take up little space inside the bearing and are resistant to common mineral and synthetic lubricants.
Tolerance class P0 (equivalent to ABEC 1) complies with the standard tolerances for rolling bearings in terms of dimensional, geometric and running accuracy. Bearings of this precision grade meet the typical requirements of general mechanical and plant engineering with regard to concentricity and fit accuracy.
