The SKF 6018-Z deep groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 90x140x24 mm, features a single-sided sheet metal cover for protected shaft mountings in mechanical engineering.
The 6018-Z deep groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) in the SKF Explorer design. The bearing primarily accommodates radial loads as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. Thanks to its standard radial clearance, the bearing is suitable for standard operating conditions without excessive thermal expansion. The integrated steel sheet cage guides the rolling elements at operating temperatures ranging from –20 to +150 degrees Celsius.
This rolling bearing is used in industrial drives and rotating shaft assemblies where medium speeds and combined radial and axial loads occur. As the bearing has tolerance class P6 for dimensional accuracy and PN for running accuracy, it ensures smooth running even with tight fits. The outer ring has no flange or groove. This allows for flush mounting in cylindrical housing bores where a bearing is required for shafts with a 90 mm bore.
The designation ‘-Z’ stands for a non-contacting cover plate made of sheet steel on one side of the bearing. This cover protects the interior of the bearing from coarse dirt particles, but does not generate any additional friction or heat compared to sliding seals. The opposite side remains open. This allows the bearing to be supplied directly with lubricant via the interior of a housing, whilst the closed side faces outwards.
This roller bearing is manufactured with an internal diameter of 90 mm, an external diameter of 140 mm and a width of 24 mm. Before installation, the shaft seat and the housing bore must be checked against these dimensions to ensure a precise fit.
A cover plate made of sheet steel, fitted on one side, protects the interior of the bearing from foreign particles by acting as a non-contact gap seal. As the plate does not rub against the inner ring, the friction torque remains low. The open side of the bearing allows lubricant to be supplied from inside the housing assembly.
Standard radial bearing clearance is suitable for common fits between the shaft and housing, where no extreme temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings during normal operation. This radial bearing clearance is the tried-and-tested standard for general industrial applications.
The component is designed for an operating temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees Celsius. The dimensional stability of the 100Cr6 roller bearing steel used, together with the robust sheet steel cage, allows for reliable operation within these temperature limits in industrial environments.
Class P6 specifies tighter manufacturing tolerances for bore, outside diameter and width compared with the standard PN tolerance. This allows for more precise bearing seats with less clearance, whilst the running accuracy complies with the PN standard for industrial applications.
