The open deep-groove ball bearing 16028 from FAG Wälzlager, measuring 140 × 210 × 22 mm, is primarily designed to support radial loads in industrial machinery.
The 16028 deep-groove ball bearing is designed as a single-row rolling bearing for applications with large shaft diameters and a narrow design. The rings and rolling elements are made of standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), which gives the component the necessary strength during operation. The design does not include sealing washers, meaning that the lubricant is supplied directly from the outside. A sturdy sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly into the deep raceways.
This bearing is primarily used in applications where designs require shafts with a diameter of 140 mm and a moderate axial width. Typical applications are found in mechanical engineering within enclosed assemblies with external lubrication, such as oil bath or recirculating lubrication systems. With a permissible temperature range of –20 to +150 degrees, the component is suitable for standard thermal operating conditions in industrial drives and gearboxes.
The open design offers no integrated protection against the ingress of dirt particles or moisture. Designs therefore require external shaft seals or housing covers to protect the raceways from contamination. The bearing has a standard radial clearance and a tolerance class of P0/PN (equivalent to ABEC 1). These tolerances meet the usual requirements in general mechanical engineering and require precisely machined bearing seats on the shaft and housing.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 140 mm, an external diameter of 210 mm and a width of 22 mm. This flat cross-sectional geometry allows for space-saving designs with a comparatively large shaft diameter.
As an open roller bearing, this component is designed for lubricated housing systems, such as in oil-lubricated gearboxes or industrial plant. This allows the lubricant to circulate freely between the inner and outer rings. At the same time, there is no frictional resistance caused by rubbing seal lips.
Standard radial bearing clearance (often referred to as CN) describes the manufacturing-related radial clearance between the rolling elements and raceways when the bearing is in its unassembled state. It represents the industry standard and is suitable for standard fits and normal operating temperatures.
The 16028 deep-groove ball bearing is designed for operating temperatures between -20 degrees and +150 degrees. The actual operating limit during service is always determined by the lubricant selected, as oils or greases must fully cover this range.
The sheet steel cage keeps the rolling balls at a uniform distance apart and prevents them from coming into contact with one another during operation. Sheet steel is resistant to common mineral-based lubricants and can easily withstand thermal stresses within the specified operating range.
The component is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN, which corresponds to the international ABEC 1 standard. This standard tolerance meets the standard requirements for dimensional and concentricity accuracy in general industrial and mechanical engineering.
