The SKF 6315-Z deep groove ball bearing, measuring 75 × 160 × 37 mm, features a single-row rolling element arrangement and single-sided protection against coarse contaminants.
The 6315-Z deep groove ball bearing is a versatile radial ball bearing from SKF for industrial applications. With a bore of 75 mm, an outside diameter of 160 mm and a width of 37 mm, this unit accommodates radial loads and moderate axial loads. Manufactured from standard rolling bearing steel 100Cr6, the design is characterised by dimensional stability within a temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees. A sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly within the raceway.
This deep-groove ball bearing is typically used in rotating industrial applications subject to combined loads. As the rolling elements roll in deep grooves, the bearing can handle radial and axial forces at high speeds. Maintenance engineers utilise the standardised dimensions for direct replacement in existing equipment. Users opt for this design to fit machines with components to tolerance class P0/PN.
The designation ‘-Z’ stands for a non-contacting cover plate made of sheet metal on one side of the bearing. This sheet metal shields the interior of the bearing from coarse particles, whilst the open opposite side allows targeted lubricant access inside the housing. In terms of design, the standard radial bearing clearance ensures low-vibration operation at normal operating temperatures. During design, it must be checked whether lubrication is provided via a housing oil bath or whether the open side is sealed externally.
The bearing has a bore of 75 mm, an outer diameter of 160 mm and a width of 37 mm. These dimensions comply with the standard specifications for this size. The component can be fitted directly onto suitable shafts and into cylindrical housing seats without a flange.
The suffix -Z indicates a cover plate made of sheet steel fitted on one side. This non-contact cover prevents dirt particles from entering from one side without causing any additional friction or heat build-up. The opposite side remains open, allowing lubricating oil or grease from inside the housing to reach the rolling elements unhindered.
The permissible operating range is between -20 and +150 degrees Celsius. The 100Cr6 roller bearing steel, the sheet steel cage and the metal cover plate retain their dimensional stability within this temperature range. For applications close to the limit values, it is advisable to select a temperature-resistant lubricant.
This design is manufactured with standard radial bearing clearance, which is intended for conventional mounting conditions and moderate operating temperatures. The internal radial clearance allows the balls to roll freely under standard fits. Where there are significant temperature differences between the inner and outer rings, a different bearing clearance class may be required.
As a single-row radial ball bearing, this design primarily absorbs radial forces. Thanks to the raceways in the inner and outer rings, the component also transmits axial forces in both directions. In the event of excessively high axial forces or severe shock loads, alternative designs such as angular contact ball bearings should be considered.
The sheet metal cage maintains a defined distance between the rolling elements and prevents the balls from coming into direct contact with one another. The stamped steel construction is resistant to common lubricants and is characterised by its low weight. It is suitable for standard applications involving continuous lubricant distribution.
