The SKF 6000-Z deep groove ball bearing features compact dimensions of 10 × 26 × 8 mm with a single-sided sheet metal cover for precision rotating shafts.
The SKF 6000 -Z deep groove ball bearing is a compact, single-row radial ball bearing for shafts with a diameter of 10 mm. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 rolling-element bearing steel in the SKF Explorer design, this bearing unit primarily accommodates radial loads as well as moderate axial forces. With an outer diameter of 26 mm and a narrow width of 8 mm, the bearing fits into space-constrained housing designs. Fitted with a sheet steel cage and standard radial clearance, the design covers a wide temperature range from -20 to +150 degrees.
This rolling bearing is particularly suitable for high-speed, precisely guided shafts in compact units, small drives and gearboxes. Thanks to the Explorer design and the increased accuracy class with dimensional accuracy P6 and running accuracy P5, the bearing operates with low vibration. Design engineers use this size wherever low friction losses are required within limited installation space. Typical applications can be found in general mechanical engineering as well as in compact rotary axes with stable speed requirements.
The designation ‘Z’ stands for a single-sided cover made of sheet steel. This gap seal protects the inside of the bearing on one side against the ingress of coarser dirt particles without causing additional sliding friction. At the same time, the opposite side remains open to allow targeted lubricant supply from inside the housing. The combination of P6 dimensional tolerance and P5 running tolerance also contributes to a precise fit within the housing and smooth, true-running operation with normal radial bearing clearance.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 10 mm, an external diameter of 26 mm and a width of 8 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical, with no flange or groove. These standardised dimensions allow for direct installation in space-saving housing bores and are suitable for slim shaft diameters in mechanical engineering.
The suffix ‘Z’ denotes a cover plate made of profiled sheet steel, fitted on one side. As a non-contact gap seal, it does not generate any additional frictional torque. It protects the rolling elements from coarse foreign particles, whilst the open opposite side allows for relubrication via the housing’s lubrication circuit where required.
This deep-groove ball bearing is manufactured with standard radial clearance. The bearing clearance describes the radial movement between the rolling elements and the inner and outer rings when the bearing is unloaded. This standard setting is suitable for common mounting fits and moderate operating temperatures, without the operating clearance being reduced to an impermissible level during operation.
The tolerance classes P6 for dimensional accuracy and P5 for running accuracy specify tighter manufacturing tolerances than those for standard bearings. Dimensional accuracy P6 facilitates a precise fit on the shaft and in the housing. Running accuracy P5 reduces both radial and axial runout, which contributes to smooth running and reduced vibrations.
The permissible operating range is between -20 and +150 degrees Celsius. The construction, made from hardened standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, and the dimensionally stable sheet steel cage ensure dimensional accuracy within this temperature range. In the event of fluctuating thermal conditions, the lubricant used should be selected to suit the thermal operating range.
Whilst the 2Z variant has cover plates on both sides and is enclosed on both sides, the Z version has a sheet metal cover on one side only. The single-sided variant is recommended where lubricating oil or grease is to flow unhindered into the raceway from the open side.
