Deep Groove Ball Bearings FAG 16036 -C3

The FAG 16036 -C3 deep-groove ball bearing is an open, single-row rolling bearing with a 180 mm bore and increased C3 clearance.

The FAG 16036 -C3 deep groove ball bearing accommodates radial loads as well as axial forces in both directions. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, this design features a dimensionally stable sheet steel cage which reliably maintains the correct spacing between the rolling elements. As this is an open bearing without integrated sealing washers, the rolling bearing can be flexibly lubricated with lubricating oil or rolling-bearing grease via the housing.

Where is the 16036 -C3 deep groove ball bearing used?

Due to its dimensions – with a bore of 180 mm, an outside diameter of 280 mm and a width of 31 mm – this roller bearing is primarily used in large-scale industrial bearing arrangements designed for combined loads. Thanks to its comparatively slim cross-section, this design is particularly suitable for installation situations with limited radial space. Single-row deep-groove ball bearings of this size support designs where uniform concentricity and low-vibration operation under continuous load are required.

What is the function of the increased bearing clearance C3?

The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. This additional clearance between the balls and raceways is beneficial whenever significant temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings during operation. If the shaft expands more than the surrounding housing due to heat, the C3 bearing clearance compensates for this expansion and specifically prevents the bearing from becoming stressed. Furthermore, the increased radial clearance facilitates tight fits on both the shaft and the housing.

What are the dimensions of the 16036 -C3 deep-groove ball bearing?

The dimensions are 180 mm internal diameter (bore), 280 mm external diameter and 31 mm width. The outer ring is cylindrical in shape and has neither a flange nor a ring groove.

What does the designation ‘C3’ mean for this roller bearing?

The suffix C3 indicates a radial clearance that is slightly greater than the standard bearing clearance. This additional clearance prevents the bearing from seizing up due to operational heating or tight fits, and ensures smooth running during operation.

What is the temperature range for which the 16036 -C3 deep-groove ball bearing is designed?

The specified temperature range is between -20 °C and +150 °C. The rings, the 100Cr6 rolling elements and the integrated sheet steel cage are heat-treated to ensure reliable operation within this range.

Why does the 16036 -C3 deep-groove ball bearing have an open design?

The open design without seals allows direct access to the lubricant in the case of recirculating lubrication or oil bath lubrication. This enables the lubricant to circulate freely. At the same time, the bearing assembly must be protected against the ingress of foreign particles by means of external housing seals provided by the customer.

Which tolerance class does the 16036 -C3 deep-groove ball bearing correspond to?

The ball bearing complies with tolerance class P0 or PN, which is equivalent to ABEC 1. This design reliably meets the standard accuracy requirements of general mechanical engineering with regard to dimensional accuracy, concentricity and radial run-out.

What material is the cage of this bearing made of?

A dimensionally stable sheet steel cage is used to guide the rolling elements. It is resistant to standard greases and lubricating oils based on mineral oil or synthetic oils, and is suitable for the specified temperature range.
