FAG single-row deep-groove ball bearing 6308 -NR with a ring groove and snap ring in the outer ring for space-saving axial housing retention, with dimensions of 40x90x23 mm.
The 6308 -NR deep groove ball bearing is an open rolling bearing designed to withstand radial and moderate axial loads. Manufactured from standard rolling-bearing steel (100Cr6), this bearing has a 40 mm bore, an outer diameter of 90 mm and a width of 23 mm. A sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly along the raceway. As an open variant, this model is designed for applications with on-site lubrication and covers a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees.
The single-row deep-groove ball bearing 6308 -NR is suitable for designs in which rotating shafts need to be supported and held axially in the housing in a space-saving manner. The integrated retaining ring provides axial retention directly at the housing bore, meaning that stop shoulders or additional retaining rings are not required. A sealed housing environment or a controlled lubricant supply protects the open bearing from external influences.
The -NR version is characterised by a ring groove with a snap ring fitted to the outer ring. This design feature simplifies the housing design, as the bearing is secured axially without the need for complex machined recesses or housing covers. With standard radial bearing clearance and tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1), this model meets standard industrial requirements. During installation, the snap ring engages positively with the end face of the housing seat.
The designation -NR indicates a circumferential groove in the outer ring, into which a matching retaining ring is fitted at the factory. This combination facilitates the axial positioning of the rolling bearing within the housing. This eliminates the need for complex housing shoulders or separate retaining rings on the bore wall, thereby saving installation space.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 40 mm, an outer diameter of 90 mm and a width of 23 mm. Thanks to these standardised mounting dimensions, this single-row component fits into standardised bearing seats. The additional retaining ring protrudes slightly radially beyond the outer diameter to act as an axial housing stop.
Normal radial bearing clearance means that the internal bearing clearance in its initial state complies with the standard tolerance. This clearance between the balls and raceways is dimensioned such that, after being pressed onto the shaft and under normal operating temperatures, the bearing continues to function correctly. This design is suitable for standard mounting fits and standard temperatures.
As this is an open bearing without integrated sealing washers, the component requires an external lubricant supply within the unit. Depending on the design, the supply is provided via oil circuits, oil bath lubrication or grease supplied by the customer in the housing cavity. At the same time, housing seals must prevent the ingress of dirt and moisture from the outside.
The permissible operating range is between -30 and +120 degrees. Within this temperature range, both the roller bearing steel and the sheet steel cage retain their mechanical strength and dimensional stability. When operating the system, care must be taken to ensure that the selected lubricant is suitable for the actual operating temperatures encountered in the system.
The outer ring, inner ring and rolling elements are made of standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6). This material is characterised by high hardness and wear resistance under cyclic loading. The cage is made from pressed sheet steel, combining low weight with thermal resistance. This model does not feature electrical insulation.
