The SKF 609/C3 deep groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 9x24x7 mm, increased C3 clearance and high running accuracy, ensures precise concentricity in compact industrial drives.
The SKF 609/C3 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing in the Explorer design for compact installation spaces. With a bore of 9 mm, an outside diameter of 24 mm and a width of 7 mm, the rolling bearing primarily accommodates radial loads as well as moderate axial loads. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel and guided by a sheet steel cage, the design retains its dimensional stability at operating temperatures ranging from –20 to +150 degrees.
It is particularly recommended for use in compact rotating shaft assemblies and small drives where low friction and high speeds are paramount. As an open bearing, this design does not require integrated cover plates or sealing discs, which minimises frictional resistance. Designs featuring external housing seals, a lubricating oil circuit or targeted relubrication benefit from this unobstructed access to lubricant. The combination of a compact size and a robust sheet steel cage supports smooth, continuous operation in industrial assemblies.
The suffix /C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance. This increased clearance between the balls and raceways helps to prevent seizing if temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings during operation, or if tight fits cause the ring to expand. Furthermore, the bearing is characterised by dimensional accuracy to Class P6 and running accuracy to Class P5. These tight manufacturing tolerances ensure low-vibration shaft operation and contribute to even load distribution.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 9 mm, an outer diameter of 24 mm and a width of 7 mm. These standardised dimensions make it easy to replace the bearing on a one-to-one basis during maintenance work.
The designation /C3 indicates an increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. The component compensates for operational heating or radial expansion caused by fixed bearing seats, thereby preventing stress build-up in the rolling elements.
In this version, dimensional accuracy complies with Class P6 and running accuracy with Class P5. Compared with the standard tolerance, the manufacturing limits are more tightly defined, which helps to reduce runout errors and ensures smoother operation.
Open roller bearings have neither cover plates nor sealing rings, which reduces friction losses to a minimum. Lubrication is provided by the surrounding system, for example via oil mist lubrication or in a gearbox oil bath. Furthermore, the bearing is easy to clean and relubricate.
The component is designed for a temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees. Both the rings and rolling elements, made from 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, and the sturdy sheet steel cage retain their shape within this temperature range.
Both the raceways and the rolling elements are made of standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6). This material is characterised by high hardness and wear resistance, which effectively delays the onset of fatigue on the raceways.
