The SKF 6412 deep groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 60x150x35 mm, accommodates high radial loads as well as axial loads in both directions in protected industrial applications.
As a single-row ball bearing, the SKF 6412 primarily withstands high radial loads as well as axial loads in both directions. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), this component is characterised by the high dimensional stability of its hardened raceways. With an inside diameter of 60 mm, an outside diameter of 150 mm and a width of 35 mm, it is one of the more robust variants in the standard series. A sturdy sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements and maintains a uniform distance between them.
Design engineers prefer to use the 6412 deep groove ball bearing in mechanical engineering for shaft mountings that must accommodate not only high radial loads but also alternating axial forces. The robustly dimensioned rings withstand demanding mechanical stresses during continuous operation. As the rolling bearing is open at both ends, it is particularly suitable for designs with oil bath lubrication or centralised circulating lubrication. It is installed in protected mounting spaces where the lubricant can circulate unhindered and where housing seals keep out external contaminants.
When installing this open bearing, a proper lubricant supply and housing seal play a key role. As there are no integrated seals fitted at the factory, external sealing elements must prevent the ingress of dirt particles or moisture. The bearing has a standard radial clearance and complies with tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1. This simplifies the design of standard shaft and housing seats. Furthermore, the permissible operating temperature range of –20 to +120 degrees Celsius must be taken into account when selecting lubricants and considering the ambient conditions.
This roller bearing has a bore of 60 mm, an outer diameter of 150 mm and a width of 35 mm. Using these key dimensions, you can precisely align the shaft and housing bore with the bearing seat prior to assembly. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove.
The open design means that no sealing or cover plates are fitted to the end faces. Lubricants can reach the rolling elements and raceways unhindered, which aids heat dissipation in oil circulation systems. At the same time, the open design requires a clean environment or external housing seals to prevent the ingress of dirt and moisture.
The standard radial bearing clearance defines the operating clearance specified by the manufacturer when the bearing is not fitted. After being pressed onto the shaft, the clearance is reduced slightly due to the elastic expansion of the inner ring. This design is intended for typical operating temperatures and standard fits, without any stress occurring during operation.
The permissible temperature range is from -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. Both the roller bearing steel and the steel sheet cage fitted are thermally rated for this range. When selecting the lubricating oil or grease, you should ensure that the lubricant used is also suitable for the operating temperature of your machine.
The sheet steel cage guides the spherical rolling elements at a uniform distance around the circumference of the raceway. This prevents the balls from coming into contact with one another and reduces friction and heat build-up during operation. The stamped sheet metal is characterised by its low weight and resistance to standard lubricants.
Tolerance class P0 complies with the international standard for standard tolerances in rolling bearings and is designated ABEC 1 under the US standard. It defines permissible dimensional, form and running deviations for the bore, outer diameter and concentricity. For the vast majority of industrial drive and mechanical engineering applications, this accuracy grade offers a suitable level of dimensional accuracy.
