The SKF 6312 -2Z/C3 deep groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 60x130x31 mm, non-contacting end shields and C3 clearance, offers low-friction operation at higher operating temperatures.
The 6312 -2Z/C3 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing with an outer diameter of 130 mm, a bore of 60 mm and a width of 31 mm. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 rolling-element bearing steel, the design primarily accommodates radial forces and moderate axial forces in both directions. A sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly into the deep raceways. The SKF brand covers an operating temperature range from –20 to +120 degrees Celsius.
It is primarily used in rotating shafts and drives with cylindrical bearing seats that are subject to uniform radial loads. The metal shields on both sides (2Z) prevent coarse dirt particles from entering the interior directly, whilst the lubricant remains within the bearing chamber. As the cover plates operate without contact, no additional friction is generated. This design is particularly suitable where high speeds are required and basic protection against solid particles is sufficient.
The suffix combination C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. This increased clearance between the balls and raceways compensates for thermal expansion caused by the shaft heating up or tight mounting fits. Without this reserve, the operating clearance could be reduced to an impermissible level, leading to increased friction. With tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1) and an outer ring without a flange, the rolling bearing meets the standard requirements for direct housing mounting.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 60 mm, an outer diameter of 130 mm and a width of 31 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove, meaning it is fitted flush with the corresponding mounting bores.
The designation 2Z refers to cover discs made of profiled sheet metal fitted on both sides. These sealing discs run past the inner ring without coming into contact with it, thereby preventing any frictional resistance. They protect against solid foreign particles, but are less suitable for use where they are directly exposed to liquids or splashing water.
An increased radial clearance (C3) is selected when temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings during operation. If the shaft heats up more than the housing, the inner ring expands. The additional bearing clearance prevents the rolling elements from jamming and contributes to smooth running.
Both the rings and the balls are made of standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6). This through-hardened material offers high fatigue strength and wear resistance. A dimensionally stable cage made of pressed sheet steel is used to guide the balls.
The ball bearing is designed for operating temperatures between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius. This temperature range results from the interaction between standard roller bearing steel, the sheet metal cage and the metal end plates during continuous industrial operation.
The bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance P0 (corresponding to PN or ABEC 1). This accuracy class meets the standard requirements of general drive technology regarding dimensional and concentricity tolerances for the shaft and housing bore.
