SKF deep groove ball bearing 61864 MA: Open heavy-duty bearing with a 320 mm bore, 400 mm outer diameter and an externally mounted brass cage for demanding radial loads.
The 61864 MA deep groove ball bearing is a single-row large-diameter bearing made from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) for industrial applications involving large shaft diameters where radial installation space is limited. With an inside diameter of 320 mm and an outside diameter of 400 mm, whilst being just 38 mm wide, this open design primarily accommodates radial loads. The design is from SKF and complies with the standard tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1). It is suitable for machine mountings that require precise guidance in a controlled operating environment.
Design engineers opt for this design when large-diameter shafts need to be supported without unnecessarily increasing the housing dimensions. The open design allows direct connection to existing lubrication systems in industrial gearboxes and heavy machinery. As there are no integrated seals to generate friction, the bearing runs with low friction torque even at higher circumferential speeds. Smooth operation is possible within a temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees.
The suffix ‘MA’ denotes a brass cage that is guided along the flanges of the outer ring. This guidance stabilises the rolling elements, particularly during rapid changes in speed and under high acceleration forces. Brass is characterised by favourable friction properties and mechanical strength. When planning the installation, please bear in mind that this component has a standard radial bearing clearance and that housing seals must provide protection against particles.
With a bore diameter of 320 mm, an outside diameter of 400 mm and a width of 38 mm, this deep-groove ball bearing is one of the narrow-profile large bearings. These dimensions allow for compact housing designs around large-diameter hollow or solid shafts in mechanical engineering.
MA refers to a brass cage that is guided on the outer ring. This external guidance ensures that the cage remains stable and reduces vibrations in the rolling elements, which proves particularly effective during uneven motion sequences and under dynamic operating conditions.
As an open roller bearing, this version is not factory-filled with grease and has no integrated sealing washers. You can either lubricate the component via a central lubrication system using circulating oil, or apply a suitable grease during assembly. An external housing seal prevents the lubricant from leaking out.
Manufactured with a standard radial bearing clearance, this rolling bearing is suitable for standard mounting fits and balanced operating temperatures, where there are no extreme differences in thermal expansion between the shaft and the housing wall.
The permissible operating range for this large bearing is between -20 and +150 degrees. Rings and rolling elements made from through-hardened standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), as well as the brass cage, cover this range. The temperature resistance of the lubricant remains the decisive factor for the practical limit.
Manufactured to tolerance class P0 or PN (standard tolerance), this design complies with the ABEC 1 standard. This specification defines the permissible dimensions for bore, outer diameter and radial runout for general-purpose heavy machinery and gearboxes with cylindrical bearing seats.
