The SKF 6417 deep groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 85x210x52 mm, offers a robust solution for mechanical drives subject to high radial forces.
The 6417 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing. The bearing is manufactured by SKF and is primarily designed to accommodate high radial forces as well as axial forces acting in both directions. Thanks to its open design without integrated seal rings, it is suitable for installation spaces where lubrication is provided externally via oil circulation systems or grease filling.
The 6417 deep groove ball bearing is primarily used in bearing arrangements subject to high radial loads and axial forces acting in both directions. Designs with an 85 mm shaft diameter utilise the bearing’s dimensions at moderate to high speeds. Under radial loads, the deep raceway geometry guides the rolling elements stably and keeps mechanical vibrations in the overall system to a minimum.
Design engineers utilise the standardised tolerance class P0/PN (corresponding to ABEC 1). This dimensional accuracy facilitates precise fitting onto cylindrical shaft seats and supports scheduled replacement during servicing.
The open design of the 6417 bearing allows direct access of lubricant to the raceways and rolling elements. This facilitates use in recirculating lubrication systems, as lubricating oil can circulate unhindered and dissipate the friction heat generated. A sturdy sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly along their raceways and reduces internal friction.
As there are no contacting sealing lips, the component operates with low friction within a temperature range of –20 to +120 degrees. Both bearing rings and the rolling elements are made of standard rolling-bearing steel (100Cr6), which contributes to high strength and dimensional stability.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 85 mm, an outer diameter of 210 mm and a width of 52 mm. These dimensions provide a robust foundation for demanding mechanical loads. The cylindrical outer ring has no flange or groove and fits into standardised housing bores.
Standard radial bearing clearance, often referred to as ‘CN’ across manufacturers, describes the radial clearance between the outer ring, the balls and the inner ring when the bearing is unmounted. This clearance is designed for average operating temperatures and standard interference fits on the shaft and housing, ensuring that the desired smoothness of operation is maintained during operation.
A cage made of pressed sheet steel is characterised by its low weight combined with high mechanical strength. It keeps the balls at a defined distance from one another and prevents direct contact between the rolling elements. This reduces friction, ensuring smooth running.
As open deep-groove ball bearings are supplied without grease, they must be lubricated with a suitable grease or lubricating oil before commissioning. Furthermore, the open design requires the bearing housing to be sealed externally in order to retain the lubricant within the bearing and prevent the ingress of dirt.
The component is designed for an operating temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees. The components made from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6 and the sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability and strength within this temperature range. The temperature resistance of the selected lubricant is decisive for the actual operating limit in continuous operation.
