The FAG 6316 -2Z-C3 single-row deep groove ball bearing, measuring 80x170x39 mm, features cover plates on both sides and an increased C3 bearing clearance.
The FAG 6316 -2Z-C3 deep-groove ball bearing is a versatile rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) designed to withstand high radial and moderate axial loads. The design, with an 80 mm inner diameter and a 170 mm outer diameter, is used in numerous industrial drives. Thanks to its single-row design without a flange or groove on the outer ring, the bearing can be easily integrated into cylindrical housing bores. The sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly into the deep raceways.
This deep-groove ball bearing primarily withstands radial forces and supports shafts even under axial loads acting from both sides. Designers frequently use this size for cylindrical shaft seats and in applications subject to thermal influences.
With a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees, the bearing covers typical operating environments in mechanical engineering. The sealed design helps to protect the interior of the bearing from coarse contaminants and to retain the lubricant within the bearing chamber.
The metal end plates on both sides (designation 2Z) form a non-contact gap seal. They keep out foreign particles without generating additional friction or heat. This allows for speeds similar to those of an open bearing.
The slightly increased radial bearing clearance (C3) gives the rolling elements more freedom of movement than the standard P0/PN design. This helps to prevent seizing if the inner and outer rings expand unevenly during operation due to temperature differences, or if tight fits reduce the bearing clearance after press-fitting.
With an internal diameter of 80 mm, an external diameter of 170 mm and a width of 39 mm, this design complies with standardised dimensions. The outer ring has neither a groove nor a flange, which allows the bearing to fit flush within the housing. The rolling elements and rings are made of 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel.
Sheet steel cover plates fitted on both sides form a non-contact gap seal with the inner ring in the 2Z variant. They protect the interior of the bearing from dust and dirt particles; however, unlike sliding seals, they do not cause any additional frictional resistance and do not reduce the maximum operating speed.
A slightly increased radial clearance (C3) compensates for operational heating when a temperature difference arises between the inner and outer rings. Furthermore, tight shaft and housing fits reduce the internal bearing clearance after installation, so the C3 classification helps to prevent the rolling elements from becoming stressed.
The permissible operating range is from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. This range allows for use in unheated industrial halls as well as in the vicinity of hot machinery. The temperature tolerance of the lubricant used is crucial for operation within these limits.
Inside, a dimensionally stable sheet steel cage keeps the balls at a uniform distance apart. This type of cage is characterised by its low weight and high strength. It is suitable for varying loads and ensures even lubricant distribution across the entire raceway of the single-row bearing.
The bearing is manufactured to tolerance class P0 (also referred to as PN) or the ABEC 1 standard. This accuracy class meets the requirements for dimensional accuracy, roundness and axial runout in general mechanical engineering, without the need for special fits for spindle applications.
